  • which health sciences courses have a doctor title?

hey guys im just wondering which health science courses have a doctor title? i.e physio, podiatry, speech, audiology

Why the focus on that Doctor title? If you do pursue any careers in healthcare, I hope that it's for love of people, instead of a prestigious title.

@chemistry1111 -- Simplified version (it can get messy): generally in Australia in a proper clinical setting you'll see it used by doctors, dentists, and vets.

Not what you asked, but you might be interested to know in Australia the doctor title isn't protected, so you can see heaps of courses that you wouldn't expect (e.g. chiropractors, osteopaths, which aren't entirely scientific) with the title. They'll usually have their profession in brackets if it's used in advertising so it's not misleading. For example if I am a chiropractor:

  • Come see Dr. Calebark for all your health needs! Illegal as it doesn't mention I am a chiro and people may assume I am a medical doctor
  • Come see Dr. Calebark (Chiropractor) for all your health needs! Legal advertising I have specified

If you're interested in allied health courses, while they don't use a Dr title in Australia, they are still extremely valuable members of the healthcare team -- like James385 alluded to, it's more than just the title 🙂 If you have any questions about these professions feel free to reach out. Alternatively your school careers counsellor may have some advice.
