Hi guys, im in yr 9 and have the option to do unit 1 and 2 in year 10 for certain subjects such as biology and methods. I wanted to know if i should take them in year 10 or is it too hard and what its like or whether i should leave it for yr 11 when im more experienced.

please help!!

coolbeans Hi There! It all depends on if you have the skills yet. Excelling is a great way to not stress yourself out in year 12 but you might not get enough experience for methods or bio. Bio is really content heavy from what I've heard and so is methods so your year 10 will be packed if you decide to do both. This all comes down to what you think is best, but I would do one or the other and not both. If you have a strong passion and work-ethic, then by all means, do both! It will help reduce the workload in year 12! But you need to make sure you understand the content or else you'll miss out on vital information. The fact that you've been offered these in year 10 is amazing work already! If you have any more questions, feel free to send them here!

coolbeans Ik this was like ten years ago but like, given that you're interested in doing med, doing two 3/4s will probs be extremely helpful. Ofc like KingYen said, the workload is pretty big but you should consider doing it to lessen ur workload in year 12. While it is up to you, technically you should be able to do 3/4 bio without 1/2 bio (which you can't do for methods) so might want to keep that in mind.

coolbeans Oh, and one more thing. Make sure not to neglect your chem. You should make sure to balance your 1/2 and 3/4.

KingYen Thanks so much for the advice! I have been leaning more towards biology since I'm interested in doing medicine and wanted to get a head start but i am just worried its gonna be too hard, if its stuff such as the cell and body parts i can handle it, as long as its not genetics and stuff 😬

coolbeans Since no one brought this up, unit 1 bio is body systems and we even got to do a rat dissection. Unit 3 is focused on enzynes and proteins, genetics, CRISPR Cas 9, metabolic pathways in plants (e.g., photosynthesis: locations + its input and output molecules) and animals (e.g., lactic acid fermentation). Unit 4 is immunity, evolution, and human evolution (such as comparison of hominin skulls and body size, etc).
