I'm aiming for a low 90s atar, a 90 would be perfect, and the high 80s is fine too but I'm sort of just aiming to hit that 90 range as that would be a big achievement for me. I picked some bad/low scaling subjects because in year 10 I didn't put any effort in and thought I would be lucky to get a 75, and was even considering dropping out. Hence the standard english....
Here are my grade averages (internals including trials) taking into account the weight of the task:
English standard: 88 - my best subject ranging 80 - 100
Legal: 85 - pretty consistent I can't seem to improve in legal so ranging from 84 - 88
Business: 86 (I always get 90-95 in business but I did extremely poorly on the finance topic exam - got a 72.5, and also on the trial I only got an 85. So I'm anticipating to do better in the hsc... hopefully)
Modern history: 81 (my worst subject consistently over the past 2 yrs and tried everything to improve for the past 2 years - got a tutor and finally starting seeing improvement, Term 1 i got a 60 which was expected , Term 2 got a 76, Term 3 finally 91, and the trial 90. So I'm expecting to do a lot better on the hsc than the average if that makes sense)
Geography: 82 - ranging 75 - 84 usually, but I got a 91 on the trial.
SOR1: 83 - ranging 82 - 85
These are my ranks:
- English: 2/59
- Legal: 11/31
- Business: 12/44
- Modern history: 10/31
- Geography: 2/9
- SOR1: 13/89
I think I will do okay with everything in the HSC - although im worried about geography as it is a new syllabus there is no past papers to see how they will assess it and mark it and I don't know how reliable our trial was.
I'm not certain how well my school performs - to my knowledge in 2024 it was around 150 - 165, which was worse than the few previous years where it was something like around 100 - 140. Anyway seems to on a bit of a decline....
I also know that the performance of your cohort matters which I'm not sure how good that is. I don't think its that bad but theres definetly a significant amount of people who would bring it down. I don't know for sure though I'm just guess.
My school doesn't given 'predicted scores' or anything like that like i know some schools do - so i really have no idea. i'm kinda just going off my own meticulous notes of grades, averages, ranks etc. Any idea of if i would be able to get a 90 atar, or advice of what i should do given my subjects, grades and ranks to maximise my chances.
Thanks so much
