HELP for Year 12!

Hello, I am currently in Year 12, and I came across this forum while looking for a review of 'We Have Always Lived in the Castle'.

I completed VCE 3&4 Biology last year with a decent score, which will hopefully boost my ATAR, and (although they are currently my worst subjects) I am doing Math Methods and Chemistry, which, from past years, I can expect will also help my overall score with 10% bonuses. Other than that, I do English, Legal Studies, and Psychology, which I plan on making my top subjects, other than Biology.

However, I am still decently worried about my current situation, as I am planning to go into a Melbourne University Science or Biomedicine degree, and I know how competitive these fields are. I wanted to ask if anyone here could provide insight, advice, or support for completing exams or if there are any notes to support me in my studying?

I would appreciate anything, really, but particularly things like responses and argument analysis for English (my school has done 'Rainbow's End' and 'We Have Always Lived In The Castle'), as I believe getting a good score in English will really alleviate the struggle of achieving a decent ATAR score.

Hey, late reply but I think focusing on literary elements especially symbolism, metaphor, imagery worked well. When analysing make sure it is in the context of the history- witch hunts etc for We Have Always Lived in the Castle. I did that text last year. WHALITC is very heavy on symbolism and metaphors- objects like food, sugar, rings etc. And the characters themselves are SUPER important- they embody gender roles and power status in the time period. Think about the duality of symbols- eg sugar is sweet yet hides the poison underneath (representing rebellion for women), and how the meaning of symbols shift over time- eg the broken step.

English can be pretty annoying but when you nit-pick texts and find hidden details it will be easier to analyse. Good luck 🙂

Wow, thank you so much!

I'll definitely take this into account: literary elements are something my class has been covering, so I'll pay extra attention to them and how they relate to the themes. I am also trying to find less cliché examples to use when explaining certain themes, because I know examiners look for that when marking.
