Hey,
I am currently in Year 9 choosing subjects for next year. You can choose VCE subjects, however, you are only allowed to choose one and have few spaces for other subjects. None of the VCE subjects that are available is interesting to me except for a few, and I don't know if I should consider doing it. I am interested in subjects like physics and chemistry. I have also been recommended to do one, as it helps in later years.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Which subjects are available and which ones interest you? and which one has been recommended to you?

I am interested in VCE Psychology, Legal Studies and maybe HHD. I have been recommended to do a VCE subject in general, and I’m not sure on what one to do. The list of available VCE Subjects are:

  • VCE Psychology Units 1 and 2
  • VCE Legal Studies Units 1 and 2
  • VCE Physical Education Units 1 and 2
  • VCE Health and Human Development Units 1 and 2
  • VCE Industry and Enterprise

I did Legal Studies early and am currently doing psychology so I can give my two cents on this to a degree. I found that doing Legal Studies early was an advantage compared to the year 12s doing it as I had more time to devote to study and doing practice questions without worrying about my other subjects. Both psych and legal are pretty content heavy and mostly rote learning/memorisation so being able to focus mainly on one without other year 12 subjects makes it easier to remember the concepts and information you need. I'd lean towards saying that they are both about equal in terms of difficulty in my personal opinion, legal requires a lot of indepth knowledge but the concepts are pretty related to each other throughout unit 3/4 whereas psych has a lot of different concepts but not as much in depth knowledge needed. Message me if you have any questions!
