Hey all,

I'm a Year 9 student and I got an offer at Melbourne High School a few weeks ago and JMSS a week ago.

I plan on completing a double degree at Monash in Engineering and Science, specifically Software Engineering and Astrophysics. I have delved deep into the facilities offered at both but I am inclined towards JMSS as you get access to the Monash library both physically and digitally and the electives offered are really unique as it's a specialist school. I live in the west and it's an approx. 1-and-a-half-hour commute to JMSS and a 1-hour commute to MHS. Are there any factors that come into play in the future that I haven't considered yet? Also, how big of an element is prestige in terms of career and uni applications?

    melonman205 I don't think the post mentions much about the JMSS environment, but from what I hear from my mates, who are JMSS students, the enviroment is great and everyone knows everyones and the environment there feels like a close-knit family. One of the reasons that compelled me to apply for JMSS and accepting my offer to JMSS, depsite living in the West as well, was that the cohort would be filled with like-minded students and students who also want to pursue a career in science. An environment like this, in my opinion, really helps with your confidence in your career selection, as you know you wouldn't be alone in making the decision, and encourages you to work harder towards it, as other students in the cohort would be doing the same.
