  • What should I do to prepare for Bio and Psych 3/4 without doing the 1/2?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently a year 10 student, and this year I didn't take any VCE 1/2 subjects (dumb decision, I know). But for subject selections for next year, I chose to do Bio 3/4 and Psych 3/4. Along with those subjects I'm taking the 1/2s for Chem, Lit, Methods and French. First of all, how should I study to prepare for these subjects (the 3/4s)? Should I aim to work through at least Unit 3 during the holidays? Also do you think it's possible for me to still get a high study score (40+) in these subjects? Thanks!

I can’t speak for Psychology

But for Bio (the old study design at least ) - you can certainly do very very well without the 1/2.

I would suggest learning your organelles - and (if u can find the textbook) start working through the first few chapters. The old edrolo one had a couple of revision ones as well - which helped a lot for me last year. If you can get through
membranes and maybe the start of transcription/translation - you should be set.

But as with anything - it will require a lot effort.

Bio was particularly painful because it had sooo much content to memorise. I used Anki flashcards (a bit like quizlet) at the start of the year - which helped.

Anyway. Good luck!

There is a new study design for pysch next year so I can't speak too much on it here are some points to look over:

  • biopsychosocial model

  • classical conditioning

  • neurotransmitters, know the difference between inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmitters

  • Seyles stress model

  • operant conditioning

  • roles and types of memory

I did bio last yr can't speak too much on that either but look at photosynthesis, cellular respiration and immunity.

Best of luck!
