  • LET'S START A DISCUSSION FOR US WA STUDENTS!!

I don't know about you guys, but all I see is discussions for other parts of Australia and WA doesn't even have any contributions.
For anyone who is struggling in their ATAR studies, is the eldest child in their family, who would much rather ask help or advice from other students around WA than their teachers or surrounding family - this thread is for you.
Questions, answers, advice, study tips, free notes and MUCH more are all welcome in this chat.

Feel free to reply back to this first discussion with a hey or hi or hello or even just an emoji to let me know that there are WA students on ATARNotes already 🙂

Excited to see what will become of this chat!

I have a big question -

I am currently in Year 11, doing Methods, Specialist, Literature, Chemistry, Biology and Japanese SL. (WACE)

I have decided to do Methods, Chemistry, Biology and Japanese SL in year 12.

As for the one compulsory english subject - I AM SOOO CONFUSED.
In lit this year I am getting 70% so far, I haven't done the final exams yet, but I have basically remained at 70% for the whole year. My initial plan was to do Lit in year 11, and then drop to english in year 12 because I heard english is easier in yr 12 if you did lit in year 11. But now I am hearing that some people have failed going from lit to english, because they do not know the content covered in year 11. I really do not know what to do now! Has anyone gone from literature to english in yr 12? How did you go?

Secondly, I don't know if I should continue Spec or not. I decided to drop spec, but now people are telling me that doesn't matter even if I get in the 50s or 40s next year, but the bonus points make a huge difference.
I was getting 66% when I was putting effort in spec. After I decided to drop, I stopped putting effort in it and I am getting like 57%. I haven't gone to tutoring for spec yet. And if I did do it, it will be my 6th ATAR. Should I do it, but not put too much time to it (basically do it just for the bonus points)?

I am really, really confused, and I need to give in my subject selection soon, can you guys please give me some advice?

Thank you so much for reading this longgg question!

Hello, I'm glad you've contributed to the thread!!!
That seems like a big decision to make - considering that it could be a 6th subject too, which adds to your workload. Honestly, I think it just depends on the career you're thinking about pursuing after school. Personally I didn't choose Spec or Literature, so unfortunately I can't give much advice on that.
But what I can say is think about the Uni course you're thinking of undertaking, and work your way from there.
Is Spec a prerequisite for it?
Is Lit a prerequisite for it?
If not, then you should speak about it with your family or teachers and ultimately don't do anything that will cause you to stress more than you already are.

But I understand what you mean about the bonus points. I'm doing Methods at the moment, and it's not a prerequisite for anything, yet I'm considering continuing with it next year because of its advantage.

I wish you all the best in your decisions and I hope everything works out for you 🙂

I actually have the same question about Methods. If anyone knows how to answer theATARbatch, I would love it if you discussed Methods as well. I might drop to Apps next year, but the bonus points for Methods are what keep me in the subject.
