Hey everyone. I am transitioning into year 11 next year and chose to do biology 3/4 (have done units 1/2), business management 3/4, methods, spesh, English, and chem. I was wondering whether it is advisable to pick up busman 3/4 whilst already doing a content-heavy 3/4 (bio), or should I change it to busman 1/2? What are the pros and cons of doing two year 12 subjects in year 11? It would be great if people who have done so could share their experiences.

5 days later

I did two 3&4s in Year 11 and four in Year 12, plus a uni extension subject.

The pros for me were:

  • having a lighter workload in Year 12
  • got to do a uni extension subject as a 7th subject. You can always pick up another subject in Year 12 if you aren't happy with your results in Year 11 or for other reasons.
  • good preparation for what VCAA exams were like and can help you develop a good work ethic

Cons:

  • extra workload compared to doing 1&2 (but imo it's worth it!)
  • prioritising your 3&4s might mean that you don't have a super strong foundation in your 1&2s but as long as you remember that those subjects exist and do the work for them (unlike me with 1&2 methods haha), you should be okay 🙂

Honestly, #nobias, but if you want to do it, I'd say go for it! It's a good learning experience. Good luck 🙂

Lm's answer is spot on. I also did 2 3/4s in year 11: bio and hhd. I am so so grateful for that because in year 11 you really are able to put in all your efforts and boost your scores compared to if you just did 5 or 6 3/4s in year 12, the workload is insane. I felt like I was really able to excel in bio and hhd because year 11 stress and pressure was way less for me compared to in year 12 (obviously different for everyone). Just don't neglect your 1/2s like I did and you'll do great. 🙂

Do it!

I did methods and bio 3/4 in y11, and it is 100% worth it.

I didn’t do the 1/2 component for Bio, which did mean I had to do lots of work over the holidays to catch up - but I think I over compensated - and ended up with a head start on the content 😆

So yes, would recommend. Doing 4 subjects in y12 was a life saver.
