Oh goodness, I forgot to recap the semester! Basically, it sucked.
Routines and Behaviours for Impactful Pedagogies- 62 (C) ugghhhh... I was doing so well on this one... I messed up the last assignment, because I completely skipped over a whole discussion part. I feel even worse about it because the assessor said I did a really good job everywhere else, and I even "described a good picture of what the placement classroom looked like". I could have probably gotten into high 60s or even low 70s if I remembered, because I did well on the other two assignments
Science Secondary Pedagogies 2- 64 (C) I don't usually do this, but I found that the teaching and the overall class structure was set up poorly, and I only really learnt how to create a SAC in this class (I'm still annoyed about the MC Question debacle (see above)). The lecturer seemed just as confused as we did, the lessons consisted mostly of recapping VCE study design and discussing the differences between NSW and VIC curriculum (really not that different in Year 11/12). Got told I did a really good job on both assessments, but still got average scores for some random reason, and the last assignment didn't fully make sense either. I had to create a 12-lesson unit plan, including elements from the 5E Design (which every science teacher I've spoken to has said that the design is flawed and definitely DOES NOT work in secondary schools), and an excursion to some lab or something. Whatever, that's done, won't have to do it again.
Transforming Lives through Care- 57 (D+) I liked this one. I really did. I found all the content interesting and engaging, learning all about different cultures, and their views and practices on care fascinating and insightful to our own experiences. But I found this class wildly different to the other Anthropology class I did last year (Culture, Health and Healing). For one, there were no online classes or anything. There was an in-person class at the Bundoora campus (aka, centre of the universe), and I was told there was an online class, but there was no evidence of it in the class forums or page, so I had to trail along based on the readings and class quizzes. Last year's class had more flexibility in what we could write. I wrote an essay on medieval germ theory and another on pregnancy and midwifery customs around the world last year, and I had so much fun researching, discovering and investigating. This year, I was asked to write an essay on male-based care in different cultures, which was fine, except I got hit with feedback like "Good research, but you should only use Anthropological studies and journals".
No way! The whole idea of Anthropology, as I see it, is to branch out, get different perspectives from different people who write in different ways about different cultures. I'm not going to sift through 30 blocks of text by 2 authors on the exact same topic and find something interesting.
I'm tired of being told "This is really good, but too bad you left out one little detail, which shouldn't have an effect on your grade, but it does". I deliver good, detailed work which shows that I understand the content, can deliver strong points and present my own arguments and way of thinking, but it should not be shut down because of something I would NEVER encounter as a teacher, such as using MC questions or only one specific type of article.
