Year 10 going through subject selection, contemplating whether I should do Chemistry or Human Biology. So far I have selected English, Economics, Math Applications and Biology as my ATAR subjects. I've heard Human Biology is the easiest ATAR subject and that it pairs well with Biology, while Chemistry is generally more difficult. I know I will get very bored in Human Biology, and that Chemistry has always piqued my interest but I'm unsure of what I should choose as I'm not interested in pursuing any career in the Science field.

So do I pick what I'm more interested in but take on a larger workload and more stress, or pick the subject I'm not really interested in but is generally considered to be a lot easier?

Hey,
I really wouldn't say human bio is easy 😅 I do bio but not human bio, but friends who do human bio are always complaining how content heavy it is... there is a lot of memorising and a lot to learn for one test. You are right in saying its essentially easy, as in what you are learning isn't hard to understand, but it's the amount of work you have to do. I have also heard from friends doing both that it does cross over quite a bit. A lot of year 11 human bio is year 12 bio.

Chemistry one the other hand is what I would call hard in terms of understanding the concepts. However, this tends to open up a lot of pathways. While you are not pursuing any career in the science field, it might be good to have a subject that will allow you to do more courses in the future. Given that you are interested in Chemistry, it might be good for you.

It is a hard decision, but take your time and ask more people. At the end, I would say choose what you like the most, because it sucks to be stuck with a subject you are gonna hate going into each class.

Appreciate the advice, I've chosen Chemistry
