i'm really trying to figure out which i'd be better off doing, as i've been told differing things about each subject. (as my main english i'm doing lit - non negotiable basically) i've looked through each study guide and am honestly just hoping to hear an actual opinion on which i'm better off doing. i do think it'd be fun to do business however apparently it's quite boring, whereas englang is also quite interesting looking. i've been told not to do 2 englishes (was reccomended all) but idk. other subjects im going to be doing are obviously lit 1&2, hhd 3&4, biology 1&2, psych 1&2 and general 1&2 if that helps at all.

please leave some insight as to what each subject is like, and if there are any opinions on my other chosen subjects pls lmk.

Thanks 🙂))

imo, dont do englang unless you are confident in your writing skills. youll have to present your idea in a very clear manner. you cant have an opinion, almost everything is factually based.
you'll have to be able to analyse a text in 10 mins and write about it. analysis requires memorising lots of different features of language including spoken and written features.

essay requires you to completely and in-depth understand identity and language use, including standard aus english, ethnolects, aboriginal aus english. you have to know about these in depth and if that interests you go ahead.

englang isn't a boring subject, its very full-on and you have to be truly committed to it to do good. but if youre like me and are a type of person who doesnt really think outside of the box then i wouldnt recommend it cause i truly suck at it and choosing it was the worst decision ive ever made

4lex74 Hey 4lex74, I'm doing englang 1&2 this year and I am really enjoying it, however, as you probably would already know, the content covered in 1&2 englang would carry over to 3&4. So although its doable, it would require a lot of your time and effort to catch up next year. Additionally, I've often heard people who do more than 1 english say that sometimes the mix they up the content and for questions in one english they and up answering it using the approach used for the other english. So if you do end up doing englang, be careful of that.

This year I'm doing 3&4 bio and I can tell u its a hand full. So it'll take up a lot of your time thus it is not recommended you pick up a content heavy subject, especially 1 that you haven't done the 1&2 for.

I personally believe that picking up business would be the best option (I am also picking up business next year without doing the 1&2). The content isn't that heavy and thus it'll be easier to cope up with it. Also you are already doing 5 subjects this year, so by doing business, it'll most likely be your 6th subject, so you can stay chill on it.

I won't recommend picking up a subject that would require a lot of focus next year since it'll most likely be the 6th subject unless you aren't achieving so well in one of the current subjects your doing.

      Hope this helps!

biba Thank you for the insight honestly doing lit and englang might be my demise next year considering my enhanced health and science subjects. You've changed my mind 🙂
