Heyy, I just have a few questions about Mac Rob- I received an offer and I have some queries before I make a decision whether to accept it or not. If you could answer some of these, it'll be great! 🙂)

How many periods are there and how long do they last?
Is there homeroom time every morning before class begins?
How long is recess and lunch? :
Is there a lot of academic pressure and how hard are the classes?
Are the teachers dedicated to their work?

There's typically 5/6 periods a day depending on the day and class you're in (for year 9/10). They're 54mins long.
No there's no homeroom. However there is Connect twice a week in the middle of the day, which is basically homeroom. It's 45mins on Tuesdays and 15mins on Thursdays.
Recess is 25mins and lunch is 56 mins.
This varies from student to student but personally, there's actually not a lot of academic pressure apart from test/exam periods. The students are all generally extremely friendly and supportive and it's not at all like how the public says it is. The classes aren't too difficult, but that also varies between students.
Like all schools there are good and bad teachers. Most teachers are pretty good and teach well, but there are some teachers who don't really teach that good and it's basically all up to the student.

I was also wondering if u guys could tell me anything abt the material on the quantitative and maths test. I have a ton of pressure and expectations from other ppl to pass this exam but i cant seem to find the topics i should work on. Also if u can share any writing, verbal reasoning or reading comprehension tips and question types that would be great. i hope someone replies soon as im quite stressed and on a tight time frame. Ty

If you're still taking answers there's one thing to know about these selective tests: they may vary in testing conditions and the quantity of questions every year. I hope you're handling the pressure well because it'll influence your resulting performance.

I only distinctively remember the test session for writing (sorry):
Writing: You were given a 40m time limit to write both a persuasive and a creative essay. This meant that you had to manage your time frame well and have at least one essay finished. The topics of the tests were quite similar to each other (i.e. they were both about astronomy). For creative writing they gave an image prompt this year.

I honestly recommend going to a tuition or online course to collect resources regarding the selective exams. It was also very helpful for me to print out practice tests or complete them online.

Thank you so much. If you have any other helpful tips or resources please let me know. If you’re comfortable with me knowing did you get into a selective school by any chance? Anyway I’m struggling a bit with maths at my James a tuition and barely getting 50 percent so if you have any advice on the maths section of the test please tell me. Thanks again.

I went to James An TT8 honestly don't worry if you get 50% because most of the times I score between 40% to 70%. But if you do want to get better definitely revise each test and what you could improve on. But overall a lot of the James An content won't appear on the sehs test. I would highly recommend revising content at school and asking for extensions from teachers because the sehs test will cover a lot of the content from school.
