Hi, i’m having a lot of trouble with my subject selection for year 12. This year i did modern history units 1/2 under the impression that it would enable me to do australian history units 3/4, only to find out my school never offered the subject in year 12 despite it being displayed as an available subject?? I was initially going to drop media as a subject for year 12, as im quite a perfectionist and i was worried that would hinder my ability to create a product that i was happy with for my final assessment. However media has turned out to be one of my best subjects, whereas history has not, despite my enjoyment of it originally. I am being encouraged by my media teacher to pursue an art subject (however i specialise more in drawing) and i’m not sure if there would be another subject more suited to me than media? I’m having trouble because history was initially one of my best subjects prior to year 11, however the sudden switch to essays rather than research papers, along with the sheer amount of content we’re expected to remember such as dates, quotes and stats under time pressure, while also completing a finish essay, has left me with a lot of room to grow and refine in the subject. I’m really worried about this decision and i don’t want to go into next year with regrets, my biggest worry for art is not completing a unit 1/2 if i choose to switch and also the amount of work that goes into the folios as i am a competitive swimmer and have a busy schedule. In conclusion, I am heavily stressing out right now so any advice would be appreciated, especially since my school isn’t very helpful and prioritises the general ATAR score over the individual. Please help 🙏🙏 - Georgia (for context these are my certain subjects and i am looking to do 5: English 3/4, Biology 3/4, H&HD 3/4, General Maths 3/4)
