Prisa when we did personal response last year in year 11, we were told to write a response covering 3 components: text to text, text to world, and text to self. to break it down:
- text to text: connecting the text to another text you have read, how it is similar and what are some points of contrast?
- text to world: how does the text relate to a current global issue? for example; if a book focuses on female empowerment, what movements in the world right now are centred around that issue?
- text to self: how do you connect to this text? you could literally make this up because no one will ever know. for example; if the text talks about going through a difficult time during being a teenager, have you experienced something similar that can be interconnected to the text?
personally i am really against the personal responses, but it is in the study design so it needs to be covered, but you won’t need to do this in the exam. if you like, i can try finding a high scoring personal response from last year to help.
