girlmeetsvce hello!! my favourite way to go about this is to use very stylistic language - i have decided this year that i'm going to rip it all out of the mentor text requiem for a beast. while reading, i just noted down words that i think really contributed to the vibes. some i have are heaving, swelling, beast, bellow, ripple, ricochet, flank, flail, flopping, flare, writhe, spasm, coagulate and so on so forth. then, in your written commentary discuss your choices to use this stylistic language, and explain WHY. what vibes are you trying to achieve? in an academic context tone is a much better word to use than vibes LMAO but you get my point. what tone are you trying to get at, and why? what purpose does it have? to make the reader feel xyz. to further express the, idk, totalitarian nature of such and such, or to emphasize the serenity and peace the character and subsequently the audience feel in that moment. make sure you quote a few times in your text where you've used this fancy stylistic language also. and you could even link this back to the thesis of your piece. maybe the purpose of your piece is to reflect on the effects of a totalitarian government (can you tell my framework is protest) so you, in your language, use dark tones that emphasize the hardship. make sure you say exactly that in your written commentary.
here is a fantastic video that has helped me understand this idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqoTDAQSNpU
and like i said, rip it completely out of another text. in fact, MENTION the exact text you ripped it out of, and why. maybe in the text you're taking it from, it creates a certain atmosphere that your own story would benefit from.
