It should be ok. Ask her about herself, her hobbies, or things she’s interested in e.g. shows, music, sports. People usually like it when others ask them about that and who knows? You might have something in common. Worst comes to worst, ask her to dance with you and have a fun time. That’s what formal is all about after all!
