Hi, I'm a year 11 student currently doing English, Biology, Chemistry, Maths Methods, Product Design and Technology(Textiles), and 3/4 Psychology.

In my first 2 methods outcomes I got E+ for both, which is a dramatic drop from my results in maths last year.
I have also been experiencing alot of school related stress and anxiety, especially from maths, and this has affected me a lot this year.

I have been considering dropping down to general maths for a few weeks now, until I had a look at the prerequisites for science and STEM courses (I don't really know what course I want to do yet but considering I do 3 sciences, I am considering a course in this area), and I need maths methods as a prereq for most of the courses in this area at most of the Uni's I am considering going to (Melb and Monash mainly).
I have already talked to my maths teacher&tutor, parents, counsellor, and friends about this.

But I'm kind of stuck and I don't really know what to do,
any advice would help thank you 🙂

What maths should I do?

Hey, I'm doing 3/4 methods rn. I experienced the same problem with math. In my first sac for 1/2 I did really great but then as the content became more difficult I started losing motivation and started getting scores less than 30% every sac to the point where I got 3% in my end of year exam. I still stuck to doing methods because I was scared to drop it and felt embarrassed but now I can say that I'm passing the sacs just above the class average. I don't have a high ss requirement as I'm only aiming for a 28-30 but if you need higher then I suggest try using a really good tutor or if you really feel like you can't do the subject then don't do it and waste time along with risk your atar being pushed down because of that 1 subject. At the end of the day, it's a subjective thing as all of our experiences would be different and once you start unit 3 you cannot go back and you will have to stay in that subject so I suggest really looking into it and only doing it if you think you have the motivation and courage to do it. I hope this helped and good luck!

I'm in year 10 and I'm doing unit 1/2 methods right now. Personally, a lot of my friends have also noticed drops in our grades, but if you want to do stem related courses, I think maybe you could find a tutor and maybe also talk to students in your class who usually do really well, I found that really helped for me. but in the end, it's up to you

Heyy, I am currently in the same position. I’m in year 11 and my methods grades have been horrible. I decided that since I do not see them improving (I have a tutor and they have not improved) I’m going to drop methods. I don’t think I will achieve a 25 study score in methods (requirement for bachelor of science at Melbourne Uni) so I’m going to switch to general maths. I think there are pros and cons though. If you want you could also stay in methods for entirety of unit 1/2 and decide afterwards 🙂 Also maybe see your school careers counsellor.
