Hey there! My IRP assignment is coming up, and I don't know what question I should have. My texts are 'Lolita' by Vladimir Nabokov and the film 'Vertigo'. I plan and have essentially concluded that my topic should be about or related to something along the lines of manipulation, victimisation, obsession and the male gaze (including the 'Madonna-whore Paradigm'). These topics strongly relate to the text, which can introduce a vast discussion, but they also, in a way, interlink with each other.
My teacher looked through my plan and draft question (which is right after this) and gave some suggestions/feedback for what I should discuss in my presentation:
- morally ambiguous perpetrator can be discussed
- unreliable narrator --> deceptive narration
- compliance and dependency
- "narrowing it down and know what I want to do with it"
I had a "draft question":
"How does the theme of victimisation with the key ideas of obsession and the Madonna-Whore Paradigm differ between 'Lolita' and 'Vertigo' based on its representation of women in literature?"
Yet after further consideration, I didn't really like how this question was written, for one, and I don't know if it will allow me to show what I want without straying away from it.
Any suggestions and advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!!
