Hello,
I have done the JMSS Entrance Exam into Year 10 this year and had successfully secured a place into the school.
If I am going to be honest, this was one of the easiest tests I have done..ever! The maths test contains year 9-style questions, and so tests you on speed rather than knowledge. The hardest question was some annoying simultaneous equations question which required quite a bit of working out, but everything else was very simple.
As for the science reasoning, I had gone through Year 10 + early year 11 science topics, but I REGRET doing so and NONE of the topics I had learnt were required on the test. The test gives you the information you need, but only requires you to apply that information. I would highly recommend purchasing and looking over ICAS Science Past Papers, and maybe even ask friends from practice tests from their tuitions.
The written topics were simple. Although I do not remember the exact topics, one was about hurricanes. I guess the only difficult part of the exam was the written expression as you can only get better at essays with practice. I recommend asking Chat GPT to generate topics, and then assess the essay using your schools criteria, or maybe even ask a teacher to mark it!
I was someone who had stressed wayy too much for the exam. Everyone would tell me that sweating through the year 10 textbooks were pointless, and I see now that they were correct. I had spent so much time and energy studying unnecessary topics. The test was more like an IQ test, so the best advice I can give is to do what i mentioned before aswell as complete as many practice exams as possible.
I can give more info on more specific elements on the test, or what I recommend you doing, but I may take a few days to reply. But again, please do not stress over the exam, the exam is used to separate those who WANT to get in to those who DONT. If your year 9 level in terms of academics, you will be more than fine.
