Deceptive and misleading advertisement refers to false claims regarding price, value or quality. It’s prohibited by consumer protection laws such as the Competition and Consumer Act (2010) which protect consumers against undesirable practices. Preventing deceptive and misleading advertisement helps businesses avoid damaging long-term consumer trust and loyalty. This is because when consumers are deceived, there is a breach in customer loyalty and a negative customer experience. As a result, the business will suffer a loss of credibility and negative publicity.
