failing english vce 1&2

hi there, i failed english vce units 1&2 in 2024, i talked to my year level leader and they suggested a 3 year vce, however, i know that'll i'll lose motivation and fail.
can i do english vce units 3&4 alongside literature 1&2 or english language 1&2 to get my 3 units? does vcaa allow that? if not do you have any other alternatives i can do so i can graduate in 2025

I believe that in order to receive for VCE certificate, you need to finish Unit 1/2 AND 3/4 of an English subject. You'll need to check with your VCE coordinator to see if it's possible to do both in one year

Hello there.
I'm not really sure what you mean by doing 3 units, and your reason for doing English language and/or literature 1&2 alongside unit 3&4 of English mainstream, but I'm assuming you are finishing year 11 at the moment.
You will need a minimum of 4 units 3&4 sequences to have officially received a VCE certificate, one of them being an English subject. If your subjects are scored, then you will also recieve an ATAR when you have one English 3&4 scored and 3 other 3&4 units. (More than one English subject is allowed and it doesnt have to be the mainstream subject.)
Here is what you might be able to do:

Ask for a way to redeem and pass unit 1&2 English, continue next year with English 3&4, plus a minimum of three other year 12 subjects and graduate in 2025.
If number 1 is not possible, you can redo English 1&2 next year or English language/literature 1&2 plus units 3&4 of other subjects in 2025 (scored) and the remaining English 3&4 units in 2026 to recieve an ATAR.
Having to repeat/do an English subjects units 1&2 in year 12 means a 3 year VCE journey, but it doesn't have to be at your current school, it can be at TAFE for example, and you can use the remainder of your time for other things.
If you like English, you can do more than 1 subject out of the 4 (EAL is the only one that has specific restrictions), but if not, people usually stick with English mainstream.
