Schools should not replace traditional textbooks with digital devices. Some argue that traditional textbooks are harmful to the environment. Students in poorer financial situations don’t have the ability to access digital textbooks. If schools require all students to use digital devices instead of textbooks, it will limit the amount of people who can learn to their full potential due to their financial background. This is unfair because all students should have the chance to learn to their fullest extent. This would lower the amount of talented students who will not be able to work in prestigious positions and roles, which will lower the overall competitiveness in Australia. This shows digital devices should not replace traditional textbooks.
Moreover, digital devices bring major problems into the classroom because of the Internet, where students might be attracted by and not pay attention in lessons. Studies show that one of the most common issues teachers have with students is their use of digital devices while in class. Many students use them for entertainment purposes rather than digital learning. This affects the student’s performance and the overall educational quality of youth in Australia.
While some may state that traditional textbooks will bring harmful effects to the environment, they have failed to take into account that textbooks can be used second-hand.
