Governments must ban single use plastics. Without banning them, widespread pollution and mass animal killings will continue. Currently, a lot of animal species are dying and suffering due to these single use plastics. In this world, nature is a big part of life as it helps us feel refreshed and rejuvenated, so if we choose single use plastics over recyclables, were killing these animals and polluting the planet. I’m sure we can survive using paper cups and reusable bags.
Take Australia as an example, according to WWF Australia, 145,000 Tons of plastic leak into Australia’s Environment every year. If this continues, we could be choking animals and slaughtering them. Without a doubt, the Australian population can substitute plastic plates for biodegradable ones and one-time plastic bags for reusable ones. If we all unite and choose biodegradable and multiuse items, we can strive for a healthier and more diverse ecosystem in the future.
Some might argue that this will take time, but it is obviously better to make a start than to never to start. If we all start now, and ban single use plastics, we can restore natural ecosystems to the beautiful ones they originally were. Still, some will go as far as complain about durability, but I can assure you that biodegradables are durable and have efficient prices set by governments to prevent price gouging. In fact, single use plastics contain microplastics which in large quantities can cause cancer and heart attacks, as stated by Stanford University of Medicine. Don’t think this is just a warning, because a study by the World Economic Forum linked thousands of deaths to microplastics.
In conclusion, Governments must ban single-use plastics as switching to will have benefits to both humans and the environment without a cost. If governments continue to permit single use plastics, they are just harming their own environment and people.
