[deleted] I'm assuming it's because the people trying out for year 10 entry often prepare for both narrative and persuasive anyway so it wouldn't make that much of a difference. My best guess is not having persuasive weeds out kids who only practised either narrative or persuasive and not both. Selective high schools really value hard work and how that relates to this is if you only practised one topic, it shows you're not fully dedicating yourself to the test. Of course, this is a theory with many flaws. For example, if a kid only practised for Narrative, then they would be a lucky duck here. Another theory why they may not have persuasive is because it makes kids have to do well on the one writing piece. What I'm trying to say is that sometimes, kids will do really well in persuasive but not try at all for Narrative (And Vice-Versa!). Doing just one writing task makes kids have to expand themselves in their thinking as they do not have a writing piece to 'carry' their writing scores. Once again, these are just theories I came up with!
