That's perfectly fine, you still have time to decide on your interests paths. For this, I would recommend talking to a careers advisor if you have one at your school because talking to my careers advisor gave me the perfect way to move forward with deciding which subjects to drop and what courses to pick in Uni. If this is not available, I would recommend exploring courses you might be interested in and if there is atleast a field that you know you'd want to choose courses from in Uni, it would be much easier to pick between your subjects. for example, a course such as Speech pathology would be more inclined towards your extension2 english results whereas a course such as Sociology would be more interested in your history skills and knowledge. Hope you continue striving hard and doing well, goodluck!

    Hi there,
I haven't sat my HSC yet but as a year12 student, I have always memorised my essays as well as the structure.
When some people say " it is better to do heaps of practice'' what do they mean by it? I always have an esssay memorised that I practice multiple times with slightly varying essay questions my teacher has provided to further prep for the exam but it involves the same structure/themes as well as utilising the same quotes to suit the response. I'm not a student that gets 19/20 or such but I do consistently get high B's and low A's (16-17/20) with all my essays. So I think you need a bit of both to do well. With the chances of getting a band 6, this is fully dependent on the content of your essay itself and I've gotten reviews from my friends and teachers multiple times before finalising my essay and this has helped heaps in terms of improving my marks. Overall, I think you do need to do both, but whichever method works well for you personally should be preferred. Hope you do great in your HSC!
    Cheers

Hi, just so you know standard maths and advanced maths scales the same so without your knowledge, you were being ranked against advanced students as well this entire time. If you're ranked 2nd in the Standard maths course, and the students that dropped to your course had fairly low ranks, you don't have to worry about your ranks too much because even if they perform exceptionally well in trials(depending on the number of students in your grade) they won't move up by more than 20-30 ranks.
This is just my knowledge on the subject and I might or might not be correct.
      Cheers.

      Hi there,
I'm not a student that does extension 2 maths, but most of my friends do, and from what I hear, they are not offered math advanced classes and it's not too necessary for extension 2 (they also don't do advanced math assignments and don't study for the tests either, they've put all their focus into ext 1&2 maths and are doing quite well - ranked 1,3&4 among 18 students). If you are struggling with the course, its better to drop to extension1 and do better instead.
      Hope this helps, Cheers

      • Hi!Hope you're having a good day so far
Do you have any idea as to what future career path you're planning to take?
Would it be beneficial with history? (Law and arts fields)

Hi! Hope you're having a good day so far.
I understand that you might be finding biology hard and as a year12 student myself, I find it challenging as well. I would definitely recommend watching videos, whether they are from youtube or Edrolo as they are of great help to me and allow me to consistently get above 85% in every test. Aside from taking notes and practising past papers, which are great by themselves, I also sat down and revised with my friends, we would ask questions and answer to each other and it has greatly benefitted both me and them as well.
I hope you can do well on your trials, rooting for you!
        Goodluck!

Hi! Sorry I'm a bit confused with all of this and I presume it is because of the different systems for the VCE AND HSC. Thanks anyway!

      • Hi there,
Don't be too stressed about your ranks as of currently. As of now, you have a pretty good chance of getting a 90-95+ ATAR and even if you don't do too well in trials, you still have the VCE/HSC/QCE/WACE to pull your ranks up to the higher 90's. For now, focus on getting exceptional marks in your finals, I'm sure you can do it! Good luck!

      • Hi there,
I’m a student who’s attempting to sit the HSC later this year and I have a few questions regarding my possible ATAR. I’m not an exceptional student and my marks are mostly in the 60’s or 70’s excluding Biology and Visual arts which is in the 80’s. I have my trials in about 2 weeks and assuming my marks and ranks are around the same since I haven’t exactly put my entire soul into studying due to other personal things also going on at the moment, what would my HSC marks have to be to get an ATAR of above 85(preferably 90)? Or if that is even possible? Thankyou

        My marks so far:
        • Biology: 85%
        • Physics: 72%
        • Mathematics Advanced: 65%
        • English Advanced: 75%(approx.)
        • Visual arts: 88%

        My ranks:
        • Biology: 20/100
        • Physics: 36/90
        • Mathematics Advanced: 120/150
        • English Advanced: 100/160
        • Visual arts: 26/50

For better context, my school is ranked in the 90’s(barely)
