  • Week 4 of Term 1.

Starting to get into the groove of school again, I got my marks back for assignments completed last year.

english IA2 (persuasive speech): I got 23/25. I'm happy with that its higher than the mark I got last year (19/25).
We just got our IA1 task sheet; online article comparing The Crucible and JoJo Rabbit.

Study of religion IA1: I got 21/25. Not too happy about that its lower than my mark from last year by 1. Hoping to drastically improve lol.

We also did our Data tests for Bio and Chem last year, I got 9/10 and 10/10 respectively. So thats good.

Maths PSMT is due next week, I'm pretty confident about mine.

Chem IA2 due this week, I hope I get a good mark.

I have started revising U3 for Bio and I will start revising for U3 math exam as well. The exam will be first week back next week.

-Reminder: work hard for these last 8 months!!!!!

Alright thanks, I'll take you up on your offer but only if you aren't too busy. Probably will not be on the housing crisis.

Don't have a SoR exam till after the Xmas holidays so plenty of time to prepare I guess. I do love reading, mainly classics and fiction but I haven't been finding any enthusiasm for SoR (mainly because my teacher is about 70 years old).

    Thanks again for your help!

Yeah hopefully. How many other exams do you have?

I'm not doing spec maths, I'm contemplating whether doing for U3 and 4 because I'm struggling to get top marks in Gen Eng and study of religion.

For my IA2 I have picked the housing crisis. It has to be a topic that polarises Australia and we have to have a 'call for action.' I feel like its too broad and I don't really know what my call for action could be. I spoke to my eng teacher and she said (because our hypothetical ted talk is in front of a bunch of 18 year olds in their first week at uni) I should talk about the prices of the rentals and how no one can afford to rent especially young people in cities. And my call for action could be for a protest or something to tell the government that they should incentivise single people in multi-bedroom homes to rent out their spare rooms. And also to ban airbnb's because they could accomodate university students. I don't know if I could make that work though.

My public speaking is average. But we do a recording.

How do you get good marks in religion!!??

Also good luck for you EA's !

I heard the spec exam was really hard this year. How did you go?

          • har replied to this.
          • Ok thanks, leaning more on the no side.

            Grade 11 or 12?

          • jcuzz2

please see other post about spec maths and my post in yr 12 journey. What subjects did you take?

            • Almost end of Week 4... Started Unit 3 for everything. I'm feeling OK, I've been keeping up with study for science and math.. We got our IA2 task sheet for English. I only got a 19/25 last time so hopefully will do better.

Out of nowhere I started thinking about taking specialist maths for U3 and U4. My school has only just started U3 spec. Right now I'm probably doing 1.5 hours studying per night including my spare which is 4 hours a week. If I take spec, no spare. I guess I could study at lunch. And I would have to change my Bio and religion classes which doesn't really matter.

From the atar calculator I think it would raise my atar by 1 max 2 points if I took it. My estimated atar for yr 11 was 92.

              Chemistry: 87/100
I did put a lot of time into chemistry mostly watching Edrolo vids but I didn't really do many questions. Data test: 9/10. FIA2: 19/20 FIA3: 17/20 and exam: 84%.

              Biology: 84/100
Got a 90% for exam but didn't do too well on reports (15/20 and 17/20) but more experience now so I think I'll do better.

              Gen Eng: 83/100
This was with a low effort and I'm really gonna try to improve it.

              Study of Religion: 81/100
Again minimal effort. Definitely going to try harder.

              Methods: 72/100
I did really well for UNIT 1 and for U2 we had 3 exams, got A's on the first 2 but on the third I slacked off because it was the holidays and I kinda forgot to study. I think I can get at least an 80.

At the moment I'm deciding whether I want to be a vet or a teacher. Big difference I know. If I get my estimated atar I could be a vet it would just take a bit longer. And getting into teaching is easy but I think I would really like it. (Maths and Science areas of course). Plus paid holidays...

              Sorry for late reply

I got 23/25 which was my best mark yet for grade 11. Now Im starting Unit 3 and we are starting with IA2 which is the persuasive speech. Any tips??

            • Hello, so I do methods, bio, chem, english and study of religion (catholic school) and a spare. I originally thought this was really good because I could put all my time and effort into 5 subjects and achieve really well. However in religion and english im only getting B's. My school is only starting U3 for specialist now and I could pick it up and do 6 subjects. I am prepared to do a lot of catch-up on the holidays for it.

What is your opinion (if you did specialist maths)

            • First Day was Tuesday, sick on Wednesday, Back today!

My subjects are: General English, Study of Religion, Chemistry, Biology and Maths Methods.

For every subject except Maths we have started Unit 3.

this is what ive got so far
                Short Story: Only the Animals
Pigeons, A Pony, The Tomcat, and I: Soul of Cat, Died 1915, France

We are allowed to do a short story. This one is from the perspective of a French cat who was in the trenches during WW2.

                Theme: Love, War.

Characters: From the perspective of the pigeon, who is delivering a message, and is flying to his partner (pigeons keep a mate for life).

Events: 1. How the animals are involved in a war that they didn't start. Story builds up to the pigeon's hard journey, of being a messenger pigeon always being separated from his partner, and in the end he gets shot.

                1. same thing but when he is shot he doesn't die, and he is so determined that he delivers the message and gets back to his partner and then he dies or doesn't die at all.

I dont know if it follows the 'arc' of a short story. Like intro, leading action, climax, and then resolution.

We have to pick a poem, and then write a creative short story using the themes in the poem and using figurative language and all of that stuff. We are doing poems written by Aboriginal authors. I just don't know how to write a short story.

Hello, I have no idea what your talking about but I'm graduating in 2024. I've only been on atar notes for like a week, and I noticed that you had an atar journey journal. I think thats a pretty good idea and I would like to make one, for myself because I need to know that this studying is actually worth it. Thanks, Sonia

                    • FIA3 HELP???? any tips? its the imaginative response

                      • Hi, I'm in Grade 11 and for some reason my school decided to do the imaginative response as an exam (or is it an exam? the qcaa thing says assessment. Anyway, creative writing is not my forte and I'm sick of getting B's in general English. Now that Unit 3 is right around the corner I've decided to start putting more effort into English. Does anyone have any tips on how to get an A for this one? If you could show me your responses I would be so grateful.
