For my year 12 assessment, those who got the best marks were all the most passionate. For the speech it is not so much about the content of your argument(within reason, must be logical and appropriate), it is more about the presentation. Most important parts are(in my opinion): Open body language, hand gestures, varying in pace & tone for emphasis, be LOUD, head up with eye contact.

Choosing a topic you are passionate about allows you to be confident - increasing voice level, body language, eye contact and ease of delivery - which will definitely increase your mark.

For an introduction, I'd suggest doing an interesting or captivating start(such as an anecdote of a victim of the cause, or potential good fortune which will arise from your solution) - which is increased by using flowery language with lots of good adjectives.

Then to finish the introduction I signpost what my 3 main body paragraphs are.
Eg. Why the school system should be changed:
(sizzling start)Each and everyone of you in the audiences today understand the severity of what I am talking about today. Too many poor victims have been TORTURED by the tyrants that is VCAA. Their despotic ranking system only belittles kids, obliterating any chance of them having self-worth. Good morning students and teachers, today I'm here regarding the ATROCITY that is our Australian school system. (here is where I signpost) Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and as Einstein said - if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid - which to me perfectly summarises our current system(first idea - school isn't good at sorting kids abilities). What's more, mental health concerns in teenagers has drastically risen, permitted by the nefarious abuse of kids just like us.(Second idea - mental health) But ultimately, our school system's results are abysmal when compared to other systems such as in Finland(3rd idea - the solution - a different school system like Finlands).

Then start your first body paragraph.
Hope you find this helpful, and good luck!

I am going to continue hosting my TV show(hopefully)!

  • While adding water is technically adding a reactant, and should effect the equilibrium, as it is water all it will do is dilute both sides equally, meaning that the concentrations of each are reduced proportionally to each other. Water is not used to determine the equilibrium constant(Kc), so I believe we ignore it when determining which way equilibriums will shift.

I'd appreciate it if other people could confirm

  • Also, the curriculum is changing next year. I believe the only overlap with bio is being cut out of the curriculum, however I may be wrong.

    • Here's mine:

S: FURTHER MATHS - Its so beautiful and is my baby
A: French - I love french its great
B: Methods & Chem - Methods is a nice balance between pain and enjoyment(best subject for a masochist), and Chem is just not too bad
C: English - Decent, only thing annoying about it is that it needs to be in top 4.
F: French - French makes me want to kill somebody and castrate their children
So incredibly trash it doesn't deserve a section: Biology

      Hey Jakstar2468,
I find it really difficult with stress as well, and there's no sudden solution(at least that I've found).

What I have found though, is that you can slowly reduce the stress.
I found exercise to rly help me, but you need to find YOUR type of exercise. Last year I was really stressed about my exams, so I went running with my mates, but it never helped. This year I just go to the gym for an hour every second day or so, and it really really helps. This also helps me bring me to my next point. To have good mental health, you must have good physical health. Eat correctly, get 9-10 hours sleep everyday and take breaks from studying.

However, it is true that the more ontop of your work you are, the less stressed you will be. What I suggest, is take small breaks. Do not have a 3 hour break, rather have 3 1 hour breaks during the day. Also, try to do efficient study rather than inefficient study. By this I mean work on your weaknesses, not the areas you are already confident on. If you're finding it difficult to begin studying tho, I suggest just tackling anything, doesn't matter if it isn't the biggest priority. Just beginning studying is the most important part, as the hardest part of studying is the first 10 minutes.

One other thing I like to try is perspective. There are many lenses which you can look at situations with. You can manipulate your world view to make your happier. One example of this, is looking at athletes. Most olympic athletes claim they are never nervous; rather they are excited. Rather than being scared of exams, try to be excited. This will not only help you be encouraged to study more but also to have a happier mental health.

One of my other techniques to relax is to just play piano, but that might not apply to you. I find relaxing with things like video games - as much as i love them - only makes me more stressed, as I get worked up about them.

I hope this was helpful, and I wish you all the best. Make sure you look out for your in real life friends, as relying on each other can really help pull people through the final stretch.

      I completely agree about bio!!
The intact skin is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
And a 37 is still the top 16% of all students who take methods.
Considering more than half the students in Victoria don't take methods(presumably because maths isn't their strong suit) that would still put you easily in the top 10% of all maths students.

In a room of 20 people, you'd be the second smartest. That's pretty darn good.

You should really start early, I know doing the first one is daunting, but doing more exams will help a lot!
        1.

        • What is the accepted equation for alkene hydration?

Is it done with H2 gas? I've read that it is done with steam(H2O) but my textbook says H2(g).
          What does VCAA say?

          • 3.
Some odd 30-40 further(lost count). (yes i hate myself)
            like 5 chemistry
            3 french
            1 full English

            1. Involved because my parents didn't give me enough attention and I seek validation elsewhere.
          • Got any connections for me then?

            • Lord replied to this.
