  • Heard this from a friend who heard it from our teacher. Do accelerated subjects have to be in primary 4?? Wtf? I have never heard about this before, please help.

  • Hey guys!
My school and along with some of my friends are told that we will be using mathematica instead of a handheld CAS device, which is a fairly new implementation in both methods and spec. I, having dropped my maths grades immensely over the course of the last semester, am very worried about this and was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat or if this truly is as beneficial as the teachers make it seem to be. If anyone who has used mathematica whether for VCE or other pursuits before, please enlighten me on the deal about it and any tips and or advice is greatly appreciated!!

    • As a long time literature student, and a heavy reader, I enjoy consuming a lot of philosophical content on the daily.

However, I'm not sure if I will be able to do Philosophy 3/4 without 1/2, but I have convinced myself it will be fine as it probably won't be in my primary 4 anyways, and it doesn't scale a load. Still worried, though, since I am doing it via VSV (distance learning online) and I have started downloading 1/2 textbooks and content just to feel less underprepared. ANY tips or advice, especially if you have taken philo, please let me know!! Much appreciation 😃

Also- I've done Extended Investigation with a great teacher so I am already decent with critical thinking/reasoning aspects of philo, but I am just not sure which vital components I need from 1/2 in order to not fall behind for 3/4

second reply, and again, thank you. I do feel a lot better since I have been in 'enrichment' english classes since Year 8, and this year (year 10) I have proved myself as 'carrying' our class on discussion and I pride myself on knowing all the metalanguage in our analyses. Vocabulary wise, I love learning, but struggle to remember a lot of words I come in contact with. It is a great relief to know that Lit isn't that hard, especially as I am a chronic reader and read huge piles of books and studied texts in holidays anyways. Thank you so much for the advice and I wish you the best of luck for your results this year!!

    • monket Hi! I don't go to Nossal myself (long story, mum rejected my first offer without telling me and I've tried every year) , but I am friends with almost all of nhs class of 24. They're really chill with academics and reports, most people even fail, since the work really increases but they just care about your own improvement and effort. It is an amazing community and has a lot for all students with all kinds of passions, so don't worry at all! Even when there were some issues with the students, Nossal claims they NEVER expel anyone, but aim to help the students as best as they can. I hope you all get to have the incredible experiences there too!

      • Hi! I'm a year 11 in 2023 and starting VCE english literature and language at once next year. I love english, but I do recognise how difficult the workload may get. I'm not planning on dropping either as of now, and I know people have taken 2 englishes before. Please let me know if you have any tips! Goodluck to all vce takers out there this year 🙂))
