With kindness, can you please stop referring this as it promotes plagiarism which is clearly not what this discussion is for.. I hoped i could get some clarity from other history students but its really annoying when you spam this. I have flagged you once and will delete this discussion by any means if this continues.

    • Howzitt peeps!!
I need help for my history essay structure for my first sac because im pretty clueless but it would be nice to gain some insight from other students (past or present)

My exemplar topic is : From 1870 to 1919 Germany stepped from worldwide dominance into a doomed state. Discuss.

Also heres a bit of an intro i just wrote ( its not very good)

The First World War was a catastrophic period in history, noted for the havoc it reigned for numerous countries involved. Out of all these nations, it was Germany who experienced a notorious downfall. The native citizens at the time were exposed to staggering amounts of political uncertainty, scarcity of daily necessities and a broken economy because of post-war hardships. Amongst global standards, Germany had lost major assets and entered a state of humiliation after 1918. Not only did this impact the reputation and state of the country, but also erased the purpose of the German Unification. and all efforts invested in the years before World War One. Ultimately, what was once an expansive and wealthy empire, became ravishingly poor and unstable as it declined from global dominance to a failed state.

tell me what you think/how can i improve??
      thank youuu

      • Hello! Kethers
Yes, I did write the Macrob Selective Entry test for entrance into year 11.
I did not get in. However, I got placed in the top ten (there were only around thirty of us doing it) before they claimed that there were no spots available for us to possibly attend the school.
Mac Robertson Girls' High School did send us an email before the examination, outlining that years 11 and 10 applications would only be successful if a current student moved schools. Considering its prestige, it wasn't surprising that there were no vacancies.
The test itself was conducted with year 9's and 10's (trying for a spot in yr 10 and 11) writing their exam at the same time. It involved the classic selective school entry exams; Maths, NR, VR, Reading Comp and a writing piece - last year we got a narrative (well I wrote a story) and a stimuli involving an image. The exams were not super tricky but remember the time restraint, so plan well for your writing piece!
I can't say ( no one can, at this point) if there will be vacancies this year, but it's worth having a shot. Macrob may even consider you if you perform outstandingly well.
Last year, I was scared of rejection as well but moving on I learned to prioritise my VCE studies and move ahead! Selective Schools are somewhat of a game booster (if you study hard) but if you get rejected, it is not the end of the game
Overall, I would tell you to give the exam a shot, but keep into mind their terms and conditions of offering a seat in the year 11 cohort- (maybe even email them to understand exactly how the process works)
Oh, and i also had to prepare a resume and send a copy of some awards and certificates to the school after they told me i was in the top ten
        Best of Luck!!🙂

        Hi
do you have any general tips on how to manage and approach the 1/2 content for methods also any tutor recommendations?

          Hi!
I did the test for year 11 this year and we got a narrative
the prompt was finding an item in an antique store and expanding on that.
We got given a quote that we could include and a picture of an antique store.
From what I remember I think I wrote about the protagonist finding a mysterious item in an antique store and connecting it with her biological parents.

          • nop because I got an offer from another school that I tried for before.
Nevertheless, I know some people who got in and am hearing positive reviews 🙂

glad to see my response helped🙂

          • can someone please tell me how they are finding this subject, if you are doing it.
It will be a great help. 🙂

            1. How are the sacs/exams
            2. How are you finding the subject??
          • Ok, so I did try out for the selective school exam for year 9, but did not get in... I could however tell you what to prepare for based on my experience.
Personally, I did attend a tutor and that enabled access to numerous resources and practice tests. Nevertheless, there are many resources on some ATAR notes discussions and selective school sites - so use these and practice under a time limit of 30 minutes.
This year the students did both narrative and persuasive pieces for writing (as per my belief) so search up random prompts and write one every week! - It's best to do it a lot of times - in order to store ideas in your head and become familiar with the process/structure.
For the other tests, all I can say is to complete practice exams!!! here's a link: https://www.oztests.com.au/vic-sel-free-resources/
Maths - Year 8/9 fundamentals and basic year 10 level knowledge
Reading Comprehension - It's like an advanced Reading PAT test so read lots!
Verbal - My tuition teacher told me to read the dictionary which I actually did but didn't help too much so maybe revise over year 9 spelling lists and familiarise yourself with prefixes/suffixes.
Numerical - I can't say much for this one so it is best to just do the practice tests - but here's a tip; don't always try to guess an answer and instead opt to seek out a pattern in certain questions🙂
there are a lot of YT videos that also go into depth.
Finally, do not stress about the amount of coverage you are supposed to have - definitely prep but take it easy and plan wisely. Use the upcoming December holidays to study well!
            All the best.
Feel free to ask any questions, I'll try my best to answer as an ex-exam taker 🙂lol!

            here's mine ; omsaiappa

            • Hi! Venkat
I would recommend edu-kingdom when compared to James Ann, I went to the tutoring for JMSS and it is pretty good.
But in terms of James Ann, I attended the Glen Waverly one for selective school (yr 9), it wasn't great but i'd recommend it for practice exams.

no its not work experience its more like a club-ish program

            • Ash444
According to what I know: most uni scholar program applications open in yr 10 so that your senior years are spent in that program (leading up to uni)
But like what AngelWings said, the program doesn't give you any sort of advantage in uni applications- Monash specifically told us that it's a scholars program and not a scholarship with any additional benefits whatsoever, except it being an extracurricular/networking/uni program. Mainly, as a Monash scholar i am learning a lot about uni, double degrees, vce tips, and future pathways so that is really interesting. BUT DONT LOSE HOPE YET!!!! KWONG LEE DOW YOUNG APPLICATION IS STILL OPEN SO PESTER YOUR COORDINATOR ABOUT IT (KINDLY)
