Dosanjh is cooking (ˉ▽￣～) 🔥 while this may not be true i do think a main factor of why asians care so much about success, academics and extracurriculars is because many of us come from disadvantaged backgrounds. im pretty sure most of asia went through things like war, famine, disease and colonialism and as a result our ancestors were forced to work extremely hard (whether that be through school or labour) to escape this cycle of poverty, privation and suffering. and now because of their sacrifice we have countless opportunities that simply weren't available back then, and so we are encouraged to utilise them. i think the reason why so much emphasis is placed on academics; our parents believe that performing well in school is, ipso facto, the key to these opportunities and prosperity, and they are not inherently wrong either.
