i actually do englit and i have friends who do lang so here's a quick explanation of both!!:
lit is a very fun subject once you get down to the nitty-gritty of it (which is basically understanding why a book was written the way it was, but you actually have to enjoy it in the first place. along with that, you'll be competing with the best writers in the state, so be warned that getting a study score about 30 will be difficult + it doesn't scale as well: a 35 typically scales to a 38 in lang, whilst it only scales to 36-7 in lit. if you get scores in the 40s, however, this difference becomes minute.
englang, on the other hand, is basically linguistics. you dissect the english language, along with other languages, and understand its history, roots and how language works. to give you a sample, you could be doing work on how pronouns reflect attitudes regarding gender in various societies, or childhood language acquisition (how kids learn to speak). englang scales well and is recommended for students studying the sciences, however it can be very boring depending on the teacher you have and its a lot of theory work + very little application.
