oh and also if any of u are wanting to do like specialist maths, physics or something in the more advanced side, they look at ur grades, for maths subjects, like they recommend u to take or disregard some subjects in ur course counselling for yr 11...

part from all these stressful things honestly by biggest piece of advice is to genuinely have fun, like attend swimming carnival, athletics the school formal, participate in clubs, and take advantage of what the school has to offer and make the most out of yr 10 cuz yr 11 low-key kinda stressful

idkabtthishehe wait so if I got all the dots in my report at y10 level this yr, I should be able to get specialist and physics right? For my science exam I got 96% but my teacher put the dot in the expected level of outcomes which is the yellow region. So would they let me do physics (not accelerate but just do it in general in VCE).

they will decide that based upon how u perform in their tests (JMSS tests), cuz they are pretty hard at first so please normalise the fact that ur grades are gonna drop cuz a 96 at a normal school is like a 60 at jmss. so if u do well as in getting around the B+ to A+ range, u should be fine. For physics, i guess ur fine as long as u show some perofmance in math and core science (physics test)

Honestly guys Yr 10 is low-key chill. U guys will have an orientation in December, u get assigned to ur houses, meet people, play a game at monash sport, and that's basically it. and then u have an orientation camp (its not an acc camp, it used to be but ig the skl's too broke), its basically a 3 day event where u come to school and leave school normal time, but like u have just some activities throughout the 3 days to bond with each other and stuff, then its ur normal 10 week term, get involved in swimming, dress up, no it doesn't have to be house colours, ppl in jmss take their costumes srsly so be creative, do something matching w ur fg. term 2, gets a bit hectic so be careful, use got semester exams (only 4, 5-if ur doing a language ;( ) so that's kinda chill, then y'all can rewind w formal which is like a week later, good opportunity don't miss out, otherwise u get fomo, i wish i went in yr 10 but nah go to formal, its a rly great night, do harmony day, dance w ur friends, watch the vids they upload its rly amazing, and term 4 is so chill, only basically 4 weeks of school, exams and then personal elopement days, and sometimes u don't even have to come to school so its chill

Ilikecakes im not so sure tbh, as it was my parents who filled in that form w all details n stuff.

and also js in generla guys, when choosing ur electives, a big mistake that many ppl make is choose tough eletives that demand quite a lot of work an attention.

my recommendation is definitely do analytci spectroscopy or pharmaceutcial science, because ALOT, emphais on the alot, of content covered in unit 1/2 chem is covered in these elctives, so if ur taking chem, highly recommend do it.

so choose ur electives wisely because its rly easy to loose marks, thus grades get lower and it can pull ur smester averagd down. Remmebr to maintain ur scores in Year 10, dont relax like I did, u still needa keep studying, i cant signify more of of teh improatnce of doing a unit 3/4 in yr 11, it helps ALOT, so keep those grades up, do your hoemwork, show some sorta effort

idkabtthishehe Ye doing pharma or analytical is a good idea. Altho don't worry about workload too much, the electives aren't super demanding, so you'll probably fine. The only demanding electives are like advanced chem and phys, but you can worry about those later since they're in sem 2. So just choose whatever electives you want/looks interesting imo. Unless you plan on not studying at all then sure go ahead and choose easy looking electives 😭😭

hihi I mean that's up to you. Lots of people at jmss live far away but still come to this school because they believe it's worth the travel. Obviously some people are going to do bad since not everyone studies a lot, doesn't mean the school itself is necessarily bad/not worth it. Altho if you're doing IB then that might be more of a reason not to join the school. Idk much about IB, but I think given that you're in year 10 next year, you have plenty of time to adjust. Unless you plan to study overseas, swapping to vce should be fine.

Taco In what way is it too late? The way I see it, it's never too late unless you still have a chance. Often the new year 11s we get are much smarter (and better people imo) on average than the people in our cohort originially. So if you get in for year 11 then this might apply to you as well.

idkabtthishehe They usually take around 50 I believe. They only took 75 for our cohort since lots of people did well on the test. Most people don't repeat methods in year 11 lmao. But it doesn't really matter too much.

coolbeans Nah. You can do bio 3/4 in year 11 tho. But can't accel 1/2 bio in yr 10

coolbeans as wheat alr mentioned above, no u don’t need bio 1/2 to do 3/4, cuz majority of the 1/2 content is irrelevant, meaning it wont get tested on the final vcaa exam, but u can’t do an accelerated 3/4 subject in year 10, unless like your already doing a 1/2 this year and doing 3/4 someplace outside of school, but rarely only one or two kids do so like those who do a language or something. My friend did Chinese 3/4last year in yr 10.
