For context, I'm a Year 10 Student that is currently doing the following subjects, and starting the rest of my VCE 1/2's next year while continuing the 3/4s:
Unit 1/2 Methods, Year 10 English, Year 10 Science, Unit 1/2 Accounting, Year 10 History (Nazi Germany and WW2 in Asia Pacific), and Year 10 French. I was going to do VCE Methods, Specialist, French, Chemistry, Accounting and English, because I'm rank 2-3 in English in a really strong cohort, rank 5-7 in Unit 1/2 Methods, rank 1 in Accounting, and I've been getting 95+ on the Science tests for Biology and Chemistry. I wanted to continue French for the scaling and the ability to learn a new language, and to try and get a 99.70+ ATAR to get accepted into a Bachelor/Doctor of Medicine Double Degree or a Bachelor of Biomedicine/Doctor of Medicine. However, this year my scores in French have been ranging from 70-85 with the exceptions of verb tests online that are like 100s (which everyone in our class gets), and on this final exam I said to myself that I'd drop French and do VCE Bio 1/2 next year instead if I got below a 70, and vice versa if I got above a 70. After putting in a lot of effort over the year, I got a 70, and I feel like I'm doing way too much to continually be achieving 70's to 80's in a class with really strong French learners who get 90s to 100s, and I'm also not even doing an exchange next year. I'm going to have a discussion with the careers counselor later during the next couple of weeks but I'd like to get an opinion on what potential pathways I could pursue? I feel like I'd be able to perform way higher in Biology and get a 43-47 study score, but I don't know whether continuing French would be better for VCE and my ATAR in the long run. Thanks in advance 🙂
