  • QCAA AARA External Exams Illness/Misadventure

Hi everyone just wondering what happens what do if someone you know has recently passed away. One of my uncles whom I was close with passed away and I'm tearing up as i write this (sorry for bad grammar). He had a big impact on my life and it's hard doing exams while grieving. His funeral is next Monday, at the same time as when I have my English exam. I was really hoping for English to count as my top 5 subjects. Could anyone who has had experience in this let me know what marks u get for your external if you were in a similar situation to this? As far as i know they use your IAs and scale them. Its really overwhelming with everything that's going on so id really love to have some certainity with all this thats going on. I do get that if u got 100% in IAs ur not gonna get 100% in the external, but doing well on English is somewhat important to me. Thanks in advance.

Have you checked with your school? Surely they have some sort of procedure for these types of situations. Yet again QCAA is sorta strict.

    My condolences,

    Hey Alpha01,

I am very sorry for your loss. As @jinx_58 has said, its best to inform and ask your school straight away. But from what I know, if you have a genuine reason with proof (which I am sure you do), you can resit the test and for example, for English, they might give you 2 different topics to choose from. Otherwise, they will use your total IA score and based on other students who have the same IA scores, they give you an average of their external exam scores as yours. This is what I have been told which could be wrong but it seems you have similar info as well. Again, your best bet is to ask your school.

Hope that helped and very sorry again.
