Like some tips on writing Persuasive english speech specifically on writing an introduction and how i should express the ideas i want to talk about
Tips for writing Persuasive english speech (Yr 12)
- Focus on your body language. Move around. Use those hands. I know its nerve-wracking but trust me, it'll get you marks. Don't worry about what others think, do it for yourself.
- Speak clearly, confidently and loudly. Remember you're trying to persuade the audience that your argument is the correct one.
- Be passionate about the topic you have chosen, and the rest will follow. Fake your confidence if need be.
- Practice your speech. Listen to it even. When your in the car, listen to your speech. When your on the bus, listen to your speech. When your eating breakfast, listen to your speech. Let it be drilled into your mind.
- Make sure you have a good understanding of the audience and remember things like how a specific element positions the viewer.
- Most of all, no matter what mark you get at the end of the day, do not let that determine your future marks. Focus on fixing those mistakes and you'll get there.
Intro-specific:
Start with a hook relating to your topic. E.g. Ah yes, the media. Full of misrepresentations, under representations and sometimes, sometimes the full story.
Then ease into your issue/topic. Present your arguments in a fun way that encapsulates the audience. Like your having a mostly formal convo with your mate, except you do all the talking.
Any questions, feel free to shoot!

For my year 12 assessment, those who got the best marks were all the most passionate. For the speech it is not so much about the content of your argument(within reason, must be logical and appropriate), it is more about the presentation. Most important parts are(in my opinion): Open body language, hand gestures, varying in pace & tone for emphasis, be LOUD, head up with eye contact.
Choosing a topic you are passionate about allows you to be confident - increasing voice level, body language, eye contact and ease of delivery - which will definitely increase your mark.
For an introduction, I'd suggest doing an interesting or captivating start(such as an anecdote of a victim of the cause, or potential good fortune which will arise from your solution) - which is increased by using flowery language with lots of good adjectives.
Then to finish the introduction I signpost what my 3 main body paragraphs are.
Eg. Why the school system should be changed:
(sizzling start)Each and everyone of you in the audiences today understand the severity of what I am talking about today. Too many poor victims have been TORTURED by the tyrants that is VCAA. Their despotic ranking system only belittles kids, obliterating any chance of them having self-worth. Good morning students and teachers, today I'm here regarding the ATROCITY that is our Australian school system. (here is where I signpost) Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and as Einstein said - if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid - which to me perfectly summarises our current system(first idea - school isn't good at sorting kids abilities). What's more, mental health concerns in teenagers has drastically risen, permitted by the nefarious abuse of kids just like us.(Second idea - mental health) But ultimately, our school system's results are abysmal when compared to other systems such as in Finland(3rd idea - the solution - a different school system like Finlands).
Then start your first body paragraph.
Hope you find this helpful, and good luck!
a hook is really good and makes for a nice ending too if u refer back to it
a poignant hook could be a sad personal anecdote (doesnt have to be real)
i used "imagine ur a kid again ....
later in my ending i said the future children will not be able to experience ... so we must...
i did a lot of cutting down on my ideas , ur speech can be specific or general just put down a draft and see if ur ideas and arguments are flowing if not u might need to add or take away some ideas
i think doing drafts really helps u mold ur ideas so try to get something down as soon as u can
