Hey All,

For anyone of you that have got into one of Victoria's selective school or are trying out, could you please tell me some tips on the writing section? For example in the Persuasive piece, is it better to write 3 arguments + a rebuttal, 2 arguments + rebuttal?

Many Thanks!!

Thank you so much for that resource! It helps a lot!

What year-level exam did you sit?

SF257 woah thanks so much for this. Did you get superior/above average for writing? If so, can you share some of the practice writing pieces you did as preparation for the test?

Thank you so much! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘ I just saw this now as I was freaking out - the exam is in 4 days! Everyone has really high expectations for me and I have to maintain my confidence which is slipping out of me with each passing day. Good luck to anyone sitting the exam this year!!

Hello...

As you have already sat an exam last year, do you recommend JamesAnn material and Henderson material to be revised in the last couple of days? Which is more useful?

Also - did you get in?? (you don't have to share this info if you don't want to)

Hey Salma257 (and others who have already sat the exam),

This is an urgent question - please respond soon because my exam is in just 4 days!
So, my question is - Are you allowed to make up your own statistical evidence for the persuasive writing component? This is very controversial as some teachers have said yes while others say no. What would you recommend :?

    Thanks a Lot! ๐Ÿ‘

Since the Exam provider has changed, I canโ€™t really tell if Henderson or James An is still relevant. However, in last year papers, Henderson was spot on with two English and Maths. If you know anyone having materials for Reading, Verbal Reasoning and Maths from Henderson, you can revise on tips/ topics they teach students. Most of questions in these sessions were covered in Hendersonโ€™s courses.
      Good luck on Saturday!

Last year, James an tests were literally harder than the real thing by miles (except for numerical reasoning, which I'd argue the real one was a lot harder and I remember there were a ton of girls screaming in the bathrooms after that test).
For the thing about making up statistics, as a debater I kind of have my own philosophy against that however I know some people still do like making up statistics. I think to play it safe I would not use fake statistics and rely more on emotive language however I don't think you'll be penalised unless its VERY OBVIOUSLY FAKE stats (e.g. 100% of the population likes cats)

Thank you for your response! I have been revising Henderson material, but I will go over the maths and english again because of your opinion. Right now I am practicing doing JamesAn tests.
          Thank you once again! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I also find the Numerical Reasoning tests quite difficult - specifically problem solving with the worded questions.
Thank you also on you view about making up statistics - I agree with you that using an anecdote or emotive language is the safer option (especially since you are a debater). Thanks! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi guys what kinds of questions were on the maths test

          • NSN replied to this.

Cuz im a bit stuck on what to study

            Mina

For this year's test, there were a few questions on probability, right-angled triangle related problems, etc - basically it touched on most/all of the year 8-9 topics.

So there wasnt much of yr 10 material?

NSN also congrats on getting into one of the schools!

Not at all. I am not sure if you have heard, but this year they made it so that the content of the exam does not exceed Year 8. So everything was based on Year 8 topics, but just made harder.

                  Mina

Thank you! Good luck for next year.
Also, how do you know if I got in or not?
