Very basic answer:
NADPH provides hydrogens / protons and electrons
ATP provides energy
You need the energy input since you're trying to make a bunch of simple stuff (CO2 and H) into something more complex (C6H12O6 - glucose).
As Taaaa76 says, the specific intermediaries aren't important to remember.
