Edit: i have a server now!
In it, there are resources for the exam, channels for both year 10 and year 11 exam and interview etc. (many people don't offer interview help but I do).

Hello all!

I'm a current student at JMSS who got in through Year 11 entry (class of 2024).

I didn't go for year 10 however I have multiple friends who did so feel free to ask me anything about either entry! Additionally, feel free to ask anything regarding life and learning at jmss :]

I don't actually check ATARnotes too often so just dm me on discord Mouse7154 however please reply to this thread with ur user so i know you're not a random person!

I've been getting a lot of questions with "do you think I can get into jmss if my grades are xyz" or "what do I need to study?" etc. The exam stage is just your general science/math curriculum-- it's run by edutest and all standardised. You will have a science writing, science reasoning, science knowledge, numerical reasoning, and numerical knowledge. YOu just want to be aiming for a couple sups.

I've had a couple questions regarding science writing, and this is only for year 11 as I think year10 is a different one.
You get given two prompts as well as a diagram for each prompt. You'll be asked to write a short informative essay on the given topic in 30 minutes. I recommend adding a diagram, I just used the one they gave me on the paper (shows resourcefulness lol). Honestly, if you're somewhat coherant and get your facts right, you can get a sup on sw. I got an sw sup and I literally yapped about how noble gases are stable (I chose the prompt about the use of noble gases in stuff). My conclusion was literally the sentence "noble gases are stable". I got a sup, and went to interviews.

The important part is the interview. The interview is where the real weeding out of students happens, I cannot stress enough how important the interview is. The interview process is also extremely different for year 10 and year 11.

The interview is where you need to show your real passion for science. You can get three sups on the edutest but if you don't do extracurriculars or have a true passion for science, you're less likely to get in than someone who does. JMSS does not really acre about academics once you're in the interview stage

Here's the rough breakdown:
Year 10 entry: 1000+ apply -> 600 interview -> 200 accepted
Year 11 entry: 200-300+ apply -> 80 interview -> 30ish accepted

I only got two sups but I did a sport and played two instruments -- that helped me get in. I offer interview training as well so feel free to dm me on Discord-- spots are limited as I'm in year 12 and busy.

    Hi Jay,
    I'll be sitting for the Year 11 entry exam for 2024.

    I'm currently a little overwhelmed with the time constraint when attempting practice tests (particularly in the Maths and Numerical Reasoning tests) and would greatly appreciate to get some tips regarding how the actual exam will be.

    I was also wondering whether the exam would be comparatively more difficult than the practice tests provided on websites such as Brainworks and Strive for Excellence?

    Thank you so much.

    Also, my discord is nnp0709#1117
    I've sent you a request.

        ReyanSuccessfulSelectiveAplicant Unfortunately People can only give you practise tests only if they are owned by them. 70% of people attend tutoring and by not following rules, and posting their personal exams (tutors), Like JAC, Hendersons, Edu Kingdom, If anyone posts them without permission, they will get into alot of trouble and expelled from the tutoring. I recommend that you start paying for tution and practise tests which you can get extreme help from.
