For writing do you mean sehs writing or general writing?
For SEHS writing within the time phrame is a huge boundary so time managment is vital which can only be achieved from regular practice. In writing, if you want to shine out amongst the rest I would advise you to use extreme figurative language. When i say extreme i dont mean the normal 'she was as fast as a cheetah' or 'he was like a snail', i mean more metaphoric figurative language. For instance if someone was depressed instead of stating they are depressed which is a low level, use show dont tell to display the sorrow feelings. For ex: I felt like i was a tiny boat stuck in a thunderstorn, each droplet of rain pouring down symbolising the traumatic past i have encountered, each droplet representing the agony and exruciating pain/suffering i have faced. (try to be as crazy as posible to be unique). Additionally, oxymoron is another good feature to make your writing stand out. Oxymoron is essentially plaicng to contrasting ideas together like defeaning silence. Overall, creating a simple plot and including lots of figurative language and description makes you wiriting stand out. Using cliches may also boost down the writing unless they are purpouseful for a comedy effect. I remember for my writing task (narrative) i kept the plot very simple with a boy who has a burning desire to watch a movie in and theatre whose tickets were only affordale by the wealthy;however, he was given the chance for a free ticket as long as he wins a competition. He gets so focused on winning he tends to be selfish and not help share his text with his friend , fearing he would win the competition. I used lots of figurative language and created a moral/lesson about being selfish to make my writing purposeful. The figurative language i used emphasises the pain and suffering he faced. If you have any more questions feel free to ask (or if you can ask the others im sure they will be happy to help).
NOTE- these tips are for narrative.
Anonymous_101 i mean sehs, thx for the narrative tips. this is pretty helpful
for persuasive, its good to have a grasp on current affairs and 'adulty' sort of terms, because these will help back up your points and sophisticate them
MHS potential candidate Read. Read from a wide variety of sources, read perfected samples of creative and persuasive texts, read the news. Try to mimic certain styles of writing you find appealing or captivating. Learn your vocabulary, and keep practicing writing under TIMED conditions.
a Certainly not ideal, you'll need to work your way above the 50% mark but don't fret, you'll acquire more skills as you do more exams and identify your weaker areas. 72% on VR and RC is very good, on the actual test 70%+ will already be in the high bands. Although I will make a suggestion, never settle for less and always aim higher. 42%/48% isn't as bad as you make it out to be, even if Spectrum or whatever tutoring organisation claims that it's a bad score, they haven't actually taken into account the examinees in the REAL examination that may drag down the average score (whether due to the lack of preparation or other circumstances).
In my first set of practice exams (2020), I remember I scored somewhere in the ballpark of 45/60 on VR, 20/50 on NR, 40/50 on RC, and 28/60 on Mathematics. But, with adequate preparation, I scored almost 90% or above in every exam by October (2020 SHS exam was postponed). So don't stress, just keep doing questions and building those skills. They'll remain useful in high school anyway, just think of it as studying material earlier than your classmates.

kaizeneducation Hey all, just a quick notice, if anyone else is interested in our program, I've attached the link to our form of interest here.
https://forms.gle/87D28hXTy5e5rWkN6
At the end of the form, there is another Google Form link to the FREE sample questions we promised. If possible, please complete the sample examination in 15 minutes to replicate the conditions of the real SHS examination. We've included 5 questions from each General Ability section (Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning) and each Reasoning section (Reading Comprehension, Mathematics). Once you've completed the exam, you'll be able to see your score and we'll send you a copy of the worked solutions.
Happy Holidays!
Edit: the questions we've provided are what WE think will be some of the more difficult questions in the real exam.

below average will reduce your chances significantly, people like @BengaliCamel got a below average and got lucky in the 4th round to get in, but others will no below averages, perhaps 2 top 10's 1 top 20 and 2 aa didn't get in
MMHS ik kids who got that score and got in tho
