UQ or QUT

Which is better for engineering UQ or QUT, I've heard UQ has better industry connections especially for Engineering. I've also heard the QUT course is on purpose easier which I dont think is a good thing, Im looking to do something in robotics/mechatronics so what should I do?

Howdy!

I do engineering at QUT and am enjoying it so far. When I was deciding which uni, a lotta people told me that QUT had a more practical-based experience and things were a lot more hands-on and that UQ was more theory based. I personally could've gotten into UQ btw. Hence, I went with QUT. I'm currently majoring in Computer and Software systems, but I have a few friends who do mechatronics, so if you have any questions mechatronics related, feel free to ask. Also, I got in via early offer scheme at QUT so that was also pre good.

I suggest you go to either campus and get a feel for the vibe, and whatever you vibe with, choose that one. Idk about UQ, but most people here are pretty chill and are willing to help you out whether it be academics or career pathways.

Also, what I've noticed is companies look for experience over your theoretical knowledge, so this also helped in my decision over QUT or UQ.

Hey Jinx, from your experience studying at QUT do you reckon QUT has good engineering industry partners? Like I know UQ is partnered with Boeing and stuff so its like probably easier scoring internships and jobs?

I personally found UQ campus to be much better, but like if QUT is much much better than I will sacrifice the campus life. My preference at UQ is the 5 year Bachelor and Masters Program (97 atar) and qut its the Bachelor and Masters of Robotics and artificial intelligence (91 atar).

From what I've heard, we do have pretty good engineering industry partners, but it all comes down to what networking events you attend. I went to a YEAQ (Young Engineers Australia Queensland) networking event, and there were people from Boeing, Aurecon, Rio Tinto and some other major companies. There are heaps of engineering clubs you can join which are usually partnered with big companies aswell. I'm also just in my first year, so working with industry partners is not something I've exactly done yet -> probably talk to someone in their penultimate year of their degree.

I also have a few friends doing the Bachelor and Masters of Robotics and artificial intelligence at QUT, so if you have any questions surrounding that, feel free to ask.

I suggest you take a 2nd opinion from someone who studies at UQ because everyone is different. I will suggest however, if you didn't do specialist math in highschool, first year will be a tad difficult at UQ.

Oh Yea nah I do Spec Maths 50/50 for internals so far, its just I think it depends on if I get the Excellence scholarship at QUT or not, If i get it (98 Atar) Ill probably go to QUT, but I liked the UQ campus more, I felt QUT wasnt as hustling as UQ is so I was also considering after going into UQ I can apply for scholarships then.
