svtskz Hi! I'm a student currently doing a VCE language as a part of VSL. There are currently students in my class that don't know much of the language, but are in Year 11. To make up for this, they were offered an opportunity to do the language at a more basic level this year, meaning they won't do Units 1&2 and will instead skip to Units 3&4 in Year 12. Theoretically, this is supposed to give them a better understanding of the language before they jump into VCE. In my experience, Units 1&2 and Units 3&4 are not that different, apart from the final exam at then end of Units 3&4. In my class, for example, Year 8 to Year 12 are put together, so the younger students are doing pretty much the same classwork as the VCE students. This does, however, rely on the student's ability, and recently, with the enrolment of more students who know very little of the language, my teacher has given them more basic work.
All this varies based on the language. I'm currently doing a less popular VCE language, so it probably isn't the same as the more popular ones, like French or Mandarin, but it is probably similar to Persian. If you have any more questions regarding the VSL system, please feel free to ask!
