So, I'm currently in year 11 and taking Psychology and Methods ATAR, along with four other subjects that aren't relevant to this discussion. For year 12, I have the option to take both Methods and Applications, and I'm considering dropping Psychology to make room for Applications. However, I'm feeling a bit conflicted about this decision. On top of that, I'm also contemplating dropping Methods, but I'm feeling pressure from my friends who mention the 10% ATAR bonus. I've spoken to my math teacher, and she believes that dropping Methods might be a good idea since I could struggle with it. Should I go ahead and drop Methods?

are you averaging at least 60% in the course right now

generally marks drop by a maximum of 10% from yr11 to yr12 so if ur not within this range right now I suggest dropping the course. Otherwise you would be carrying a dead weight subject that you wouldn’t even be passing which is not ideal in year 12.

Also if the teacher recommended you drop the subject thats a pretty clear incentive to do so. They know what’s best for you and if they think dropping the course will help you then that’s what you should do as they are probably right

I am averaging 57% for methods rn, so I think dropping might be best. Thank you so much for the advice <3

It is true that grades will drop by about 10% in the transition from year 11 to year 12, but this is without applying extra effort. It's important to remember that in year 12, you have much more support from your teachers and with the right study habits, you may find yourself doing much better next year.
