HYP3RX so for sr - although you need some knowledge of yr 8/9 science - it’s mainly focused on interpreting information and reasoning based off of that. If you’re not going to tutoring for jmss u can use icas practice papers to help, but the question type isn’t exactly the same as you may need more prior knowledge on the actual test - so make sure to study and have a general (doesn’t have to be extremely in depth) understanding of all topics (including geology lol). For one of the writing pieces it’s abt communicating a topic they’ve given you - generally about a scientific issue and possible solutions. The structure I (and most ppl use) is intro, 2-4 body paragraphs and conclusions. What’s in each paragraph depends on the topic. For the second writing- it’s a prac report- it may change year to year - but our task was to write a hypothesis , discussion and conclusion (I think) for a prac where we got materials method and results. For this follow general report structure (can be found in lots of textbooks). A few things I like to remember are to discuss , explain and reference results in discusion, list potential errors, solution to these and extensions of the prac also in the discussion, and in conclusion restate aim, whether hypothesis was supported and how the research can be applied in real life. To practice both writings, chat gpt practice prompts and get feedback, either from ai, tutors, teachers or peers and consistently practice and reflect on the feedback.
