If you want an accurate practice test, i've heard that ICAS Science papers for year 9 and year 10 are pretty close to the real thing. Can anyone confirm this?

Does anyone have practice tests?

hi guys, I'm doing the jmss test this year and was wondering whether you are given the method, materials and results when you write your prac report? my tutoring center is making us write the whole thing from scratch with only a prompt (we have to make up results) but my i've read some contradicting things. also what did u guys have on your cv, because i need to start making sure i have enough stuff, like did u guys have lots of science related stuff on there?

lols so im pretty sure they give you the results and from that you have to derive the method and materials but also they sometime dont give you the results and give you a prompt like "write a report outlining the patterns within the periodic table". another report type they can give you is they give you background information about something and then the prompt is like "write a submission to the Tasmanian government outlining your ideas to save the Tasmanian devil". They can also ask you to discuss similarities and differences and sooo many more things. SO its not necessary they will make you write a prac report because the test is actually "science communication" not necessarily a scientific report

ℨ𝔞𝔯𝔞 Actually, there is 2 writing pieces I believe. 1 is science interest and communication and the other being scientific report. The scientific report is the one where is is report structured including discussion, conclusion and other. Science I & C is where you write a scientific essay on a topic where only background info is given like the Tasmanian devil one that you said.

Also, for anyone who passed the jmss test, what study resources/ techniques did u find most helpful? I’ve been using quizlet and just reviewing / writing notes so far and am not sure if there’s a better method of studying

I haven't done the test yet but i think practice tests would be a pretty good option, that way you could work out what you need to practice more.

Does anyone have any resources they can share??

well this isnt practice tests or anything, but for studying science, bbc bitesize is rly good, cuz it isnt pages and pages of info, and lots of topics have a quiz at the end so you know how much you understood

hello guys i am trying out for jmss this year and i have not started. I took a lot of time off bc after the sets test i was really burnt out nd tried focusing on myself. I really want to get in and i know i have 3 months but a lot of people dont study for this test. My strong suit is math and science but i am scared for nr and science writing. Does anyone have any tips? My sister went jac tutoring for jmss and im doing her books but idk what else to do.

guys whats the structure for the science essay writing not the report one?

A basic essay structure an intro 3 ish body paragraphs and a conclusion

introduction or no? also do they give you three arguments kind of to write it abour

Sierra i did see a post about just revising year 8 and 9 topics for maths and science(fort the reasoning). I think mainly try practicing science writing tasks since apparently it'll be one of the harder tests to do. Probably a way to practice is byt just writing a bunch of reports and essays on science related topics to really get the hang of it if ur not used to it

yes to intro, not exactly to giving 3 arguments. Prompts might be slightly different but they give u a bunch of info and maybe they'll give you a few statement to guide your piece. For example, the prompt might be oil spills and they'll give u a bunch of info and statistics, and they might say 'write an essay outlining the significance of oil spills and how to reduce them'. From this you might be able to get a basic outline of what ur paragraphs need to be

Yeah, there is two types of writing, there is science analysis and reporting an science intrest and communication.
For analysis and reporting it will pretty much tell you to write or complete a scientific report.
For interest and communication, it will either ask you to express your thoughts or discuss about something. They will prob give you a page with stats and like one or two articles as reference for your essay.

guys this is kinda random but approx how many people in your school r taking the exam this year? My grade probably has atleast 30-50 kids trying

lols im a year 8 but same probably for me like 20 to 30
