Can I get out of a Unit 3/4 class in this circumstance?

I’m a year 11 student this year accelerating a subject I really don’t want to do any more.

Here on this website it says for 2024 “Initial enrolment” needs to be done by the 26th of Feb.

Does this mean if I contact my school as soon as I go back (feb 1st), I may not be in the system, meaning I may be able to change classes? We did a headstart program and timetables are released. I will not be eligible for compassionate late withdrawal and am really worried about having to do this subject.

Do most schools enroll their students long before this date (and if I’m not enrolled does that mean dropping the class will be possible) Thanks

Note: I did high school ~ 10 years ago so not sure if it’s the same today and also not sure if all schools are like this, so take my response with a heap of salt.

To answer your question, they usually do enrol you by now, but they typically have a ‘grace period’ in which you can switch your subjects around/ drop subjects. There is a chance that you might not be able to switch the subject you accelerate to another Year 12 subject and the school may make you take a Year 11 class in its place instead, with limited subject choices from classes in the same timetable “block” (i.e. class that runs as same time). Your school may also say no to dropping the class if you don’t fulfil VCAA requirements e.g. you had 4 subjects including your accelerated class and now will end up with 3 after dropping the accelerated one. You will have to ask your school to confirm.
