To the extent of my knowledge, I believe that some misinformation has been spread here.
As Sejal has said, the way that SAC scores are moderated, it may lead to you being 'dragged' up or down, by the other members of your cohort.
Additionally, going to a select entry school will inherently provide a higher quality education, thus yield better ATAR scores.

However, contrary to the allusions of others here, you don't get some arbitrary boost (e.g. +5 aggregate score) and aren't necessarily advantaged by attending a select entry school.

Just try your best, and therefore can't be disappointed in the outcome.

Im js gna try get a good grade and study hard for vce, i can get a good atar in a non selective school and if i do good surely my cohort cant weigh me down, because the system has to be fair.

but thank you for your input

Hey I'm a selective school student - but yes as some other ppl have said above, its your SAC scores that get boosted, depending on the subject. For instance, my school has quite challenging biology sacs, so since all our marks are lower but we do well on the exam, all our sac marks are scaled up by VCAA.
It's likely this has some effect on your study scores and thus ATAR, though I'd say it's not huge. Of course scaling depends on many other factors though.
