MMHS Yeah don't stress yourself now just focus when you have about two months left and revise carefully.

chxin yo could u send me some mocks n stuff?

if anybody is trying to make sehs please listen

there are a bunch of asians. like literally everybody is indian or chinese
i'm sorry but the reality is that most who make it are incredibly gifted and didnt study much, like 40% of the people i meet are like that

for maths, don't tryhard it
yea learn quadratics but DO NOT overlearn with calc and stuff.
there was basically no insanely hard algebra and stuff, unless you do simple polynomials x70 a day don't try too hard for maths. nobody finishes the entire test

for numerical i cant say much, i didnt get a sup in it but its basically the same as maths, but even more logic, and you finish even less questions

for verbal its insanely easy, i finished like 20min early but i studied mostly for it. most people i know finished early for verbal. i just did vocab.com wayyy too much everyday and i got a pretty good list for it.
verbal questions are like: 'if all cogs are logs and some logs or fogs but some mogs are bogs'
otherwise its just vocab

reading is kinda hard, just get workbooks and do comprehension, like every question is comprehension as usual. if you can't get workbooks do readtheory

writing i had a pretty weird strat but it worked, i memorised around 5 or 6 sentences of really insane descriptive language or like that insane shakespeare stuff, i had a kinda mid plot but as long as you think outside the box and do the memorisation strat you shouldn't be too bad

for tutors, i didn't do it but my friends did select entry accelerator, its pretty good.
i did edukingdom and qs school, the edukingdom is pretty easy stuff so i wouldn't recommend unless you do another tutor bit harder tutor and leave edukingdom as like a baseline of how the sehs test is, it honestly is pretty similar

i went to qs box hill by train after school which took like an hour, but im telling you if you hear about a korean uni student Michael, hes the greatest. qs is pretty hard and a lot harder than sehs (not only by question difficulty but also time management). qs i recommend
if anybody does james ann i have beef with you and its a decent tutor ngl

tldr, dont focus too much on maths, most of your competitors will sweat maths and numerical
english is the meta to win, spend time on vocab.com and just do comprehension
writing i cant help you out too much

you want atleast 2 superiors to make it.
if you want more help or my vocab.com list (very good, i got many of the words in the sehs test) just reply

cya nerds i hope you make it into mhs or mghs (i might see you at mhs)

oh yea mock exams will help do the ones on the gov website, and i got a bunch if you need. gov website ones are pretty hard on english but the maths is easier than reality

antimono I use Vocab.com daily and have like over a million points. Could you share that list with me? Also, would it be possible to get some mock exams? I’m aiming to practice as much as I can before the test. My parents are also encouraging me to memorise high-quality descriptive phrases for writing, so I’m hoping it all pays off. I’m in Select Entry Accelerator rn asw.

Chakraboi don't memorise high quality phrases, they are extremely 'one-off' and will only come in handy if the topic suits what you are trying to convey through the phrase. Don't do stuff like memorising words or phrases, i tried it and it barely helped

Chakraboi also, why are you worrying so early on? You already go to tuition which would probably give you other external resources to practice away from the site, keep doing other things little by little.

MMHS theres no time the test is soon 5 months or smth

if i'm being honest, the selective entry high schools exam is just to test your basis skills, how well you can convey a message through a narrative, how well you are able to induce someone into doing something based on your persuasive techniques. How well are your word relationship skills through vr, how well can you comprehend what you are reading through rc. And the maths ones are just how well can you apply logic and reasoning to get to the answer of a problem. I mean, these tests are not similar to what you are doing in school, they are only a measure of logical aptitude and interpretation of material. This is why a lot of people who do well in selective, don't do well in certain areas in a selective school. But 60-70% of the time this isn't the case.

trust me, 5 months is a long time, nearly half a year

Chakraboi nah i'm sure you will do well, but make sure you weigh up other factors too, like if you are willing to travel the distance your house is to mhs, willing to step deeep out of your comfort zone, be expected to perform at a high level in things other than studies. But you should be good bro just keep up your good work.

Also, to all year 8 students, i expect this chat to be very lively, you can't be slacking on atar notes. This forum must has 3k posts by the time you do your final test

Chakraboi if you have over a million points then you're definitely way ahead of me. i have some mock tests i will try send if i can find them

MMHS welp for me phrases helped, mine were extremely ambiguous and it worked extremely well.
they weren't very one off either, i refined them and throughout 'essay battles' with my friends it was clear it really got me the dubs

            • MMHS replied to this.

antimono did u get in mhs?, how did you fare on the exam with results

antimono well if they were ambiguous then obviously its subsequential success of the implementation of them in your essays wouldn't have been unprecedented

                • Edited

i'm just saying that to dion because my friends in james an and many other people would just memorise quotes or phrases that sounded 'eloquent' and had 'good' vocab, hoping that the opportunity to implement them in a topic would arrive. But, in saying that, if it worked for you then clearly its not a bad choice.

antimono i found writing to be so easy in the exams and mocks i did, along with all the other english components, over time my james an material became easy but the test wasn't much like it so that was kinda frustrating. Seems like writing was strong for you too
