matureagedstudent why are you so pessimistic
matureagedstudent who th cares, also how do u know all high scorers in yr 9-12 cheat
matureagedstudent OK? u are older than me, so?
matureagedstudent that's not necessarily true
matureagedstudent not true as u can be 20 but have a car accident when u are 28 could die from that.
MHS successful candidate very true this world is suicidal.
i am actually trying to ingnore this guy but he is so opinionated
can we like, not be typing random stuff in my journal please- make something separate to do whatever you want to call this
it has been a long while since i yapped here and considering i cannot sleep for the life of me, i suppose i can update with the very little that changed since the last time i wrote...
i have jump-start at monash today which is scary because it's officially the first orientation event i have. already made a friend which is so fun because now im not worrying about going alone. my goal was to make one new friend and here we are reaching that goal before uni even starts (go me!! )
i also got a scholarship yay!! it's $6k a year for the length of my course which is 3 years, meaning over a third of the fees are covered which is a huge relief. i also have an external $1k scholarship which i can spend on myki, a new laptop that i still haven't bought, etc.
it is quite scary that im adulting my way through life right now. still no success on the job side of things and i didn't get the last job i had an interview for, but i keep trying and hoping for the best.
on that note, i should technically be waking up in another hour and 15 minutes so might take a nap lol. i will update with a jump-start debrief afterwards!! take care all

That transition from high school kid to responsible university adult life hits you kind of hard, but don't worry! There are plenty around you who have the same feelings and emotions. Orientation is always fun too, and congratulations on your scholarship.
Make sure you get a healthy sleep cycle going into uni. You're in charge of your own study and learning now, and you won't need to spend all night studying either. Unless it's exam season
FinFin-3rdYearUni yeah the transition is weird. i forgot i didn't need permission to leave to get a coffee and got up without asking which was weird yet so so relieving.
and YESSS definitely getting lots of sleep, with the commute 3 days a week it's going to be exhausting but i cannot wait for the first week of classes!!
Not that I encourage or recommend it, but you literally could get up and leave 10 minutes into the class and just go home. It doesn't get written up, no phone call home, no discussion about your "bad behaviour".
When you get into a groove, you'll feel more relaxed. Those commutes won't seem like such a big deal after a while

as i await for my first train of two (first one got cancelled lol) amidst painstakingly annoying disruptions of BOTH my trains today (thanks ptv), here is an update!!
o-week was BAD. im usually optimistic but goddamn it was so boring, and everyone was really dry , im hoping i make more friends as actual classes start. i did spend most of last week doing a final proper catch up with my friends outside of uni as things are going to get busyy- had a picnic, yap session, breakfast and brunch with all my friends, and am grabbing ice cream with one last friend tomorrow after uni.
today i don't have an actual class. at monash, they have a journalism thingy called mojonews, so im going to their meeting today and am going to join. it can help build my portfolio which i need heading into the journalism industry, so that will be a good test.
for now, i brave through the delays and pray ptv doesn't throw any more surprises.
hope everyone is well + enjoying uni/school
edit: 2nd train also got cancelled. my 1hr journey turned into almost 2hrs
oh wow it's been a month exactly (this was not intentional, rather a testament to how busy i have been).
week 5 of uni is almost done!! it's been an interesting ride thusfar. i don't know how i should format the update, im going to try unit by unit and see where that takes me. i have changed my units slightly, so now i'm studying:
- fundamentals of journalism
- understanding crime
- international human rights
- media and culture
fundamentals of journalism: definitely my favourite class! although it is an 8am class, i enjoy the journalism unit so so much, which is a given for a journalist-hopeful student. the first assessment was two mini essays (400 words each) in response to two prompts, which i think went somewhat ok!! we do quizzes each week which are actually quite easy so i feel hopeful for that 10% of my grade LOL.
understanding crime: another fun class!! my tutor is really hilarious and that makes the class quite engaging, which is fun. first assessment was alright, i should have my grade back today, and the second assessment is due next week. also knowing a few people in that class makes it so much more fun to go to.
international himan rights: THE CLASS I HAVE TWO FRIENDS IN. and my friends i mean i have done stuff (library study session) with one of them outside of dedicated class time. also a decent class, although it is quite philosophical which always makes way for interesting debates. the assignment was having to make a meme about torture, and analyse and critique it within 500 words. weird assignment, yes, nonetheless a task to help condense my writing and propose an argument effectively.
media and culture: i moved into this class from political theory in a changing world, because i was struggling from day 1 and didn't want to do that to myself. media and culture is fun!! it's quite subjective therefore ambiguous, but allows for broad discussion. first assignment was a 1100 word essay which allowed me to yap which is always great.
i think the biggest challenge for me it making sure my mental health is ok, avoiding burning out, and putting me first at times. i spent a lot of time over the last 5 weeks doing uni work and doing assignments, and haven't had many breaks for me. but im going to a party next week which is tough because i hate parties, but nonetheless i love my friends .
about to arrive at uni so i will stop my yap, and hope everything is going well for others
