Interstate/Overseas students applying for Victoria SEHS 2026

Hey! Just an introduction, I have few questions and would also like to find a community of students like me 🙂

What are the odds of getting into a selective high school as an overseas student, is there any disadvantage?
What are some resources I could get easily online and free since unfortunately I am unable to get tutoring in Australia and wouldn’t like to burden my parents by paying high fees just for material 🙁
Could any past and present students share any practice material or tips since that would be very helpful!

Would love to start talking with all of you and maybe even practice and prepare too! 😃

The only sort of disadvantage would be (i assume) is if the country you are applying from is competitive as the acer website says that interstate and overseas applicants are grouped into regions in which the 4% rule applies

Here is some general advice on how to handle the exam:
-In the multiple choice tests, scan all the question in the pages that are open and solve the ones that you can, then move to the next set of pages and repeat. Once you get to the end of the booklet, repeat the process by solving the next set of questions you can.
-When there is 5 minutes left, shade all the unanswered questions with a guess and then answer the unanswered questions.
-There will be a timer going off to indicate that there is 5 minutes left (the invigilator will announce it), so don’t panic when you hear the timer go off for the first time

Alp🏔️ you can use free resources by studying the test like using online free resources or if you do have a printer you can print some of the SEHS worksheets and replicate a similar format to the test.

Alp🏔️ it is a bit difficult and i can relate to that but you can study the format of the test and research practice questions and mock tests related to the exam, it will definitely give you an idea of what the test will be like and what it contains.
Don't lose hope many people have gotten into an SEHS school with free resources because even if you made it or not, you wouldn't have anything to lose.
Just try your best and believe in yourself anything is possible.

Wait so you are doing the ACER one right? If so, then the test in my opinion is quite hard. Like you can't find any resources online that are related to the exam. The questions are quite tricky tho, especially in numerical reasoning. I think ACER style exam is nothing you can study for but of your own skills and knowledge.

Eligibility criteria
2.1 Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for and attend a Selective Entry High School, students must be in their
second year of secondary schooling or its equivalent (usually Year 8), have not previously sat the
examination for Year 9 entry, and be:
• an Australian citizen, or
• a New Zealand citizen residing in Australia, or
• holders of a visa or ImmiCard, which would exempt them from paying International Student
Fees to attend a Victorian government school (for further information, refer to International
Student Visa Fee Table at: www.study.vic.gov.au/en/Pages/school-accreditation.aspx and
the ImmiCard section of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s website at:
www.border.gov.au/Trav/Refu/Immi, or
• able to meet the above criteria by the time the offers process commences.
Students attending government and non-government schools, as well as home-schooled students,
are eligible to apply.
The above eligibility criteria apply to students living in Victoria, as well as those living and studying
interstate or overseas. More information for students living interstate/overseas can be found in
section 5.
Fee-paying international students enrolled in Victorian schools are not eligible to apply.

Alp🏔️ acer does make other scholarship tests but their sehs ones are very different to them, as they are much more time-consuming and vague. here are some sample questions from the website though
